Until tomorrow when yet another ex-Yugoslav republic splits in two
At this rate the Eurovision voting is going to take an entire week by 2015.

The question is when will Kosovo get the iPhone, and its own ITMS?

I wonder if this will go down quietly (it hasn't until now)...

I'm hoping the U.S. will split into three separate countries: the conservatives, liberals, and moderates. The conservatives would name their country "The Patriotic States of America," the liberals would name their country "The Reasonable States of America," and the moderates would name their country "Pink Floyd" because someone would have nominated it as a joke and no one would take the election seriously.

I'd love to have a country just for deaf people and hearing allies, where everyone used sign language. There's a hell of a lot of us around the world who don't use spoken languages.

The daily commute showcases the vast number of people who don't use spoken language, preferring to communicate almost exclusively with hand gestures.

I don't see how breaking a bunch of small countries into even smaller countries is going to help, but I wish them luck.
There are about 194 countries on this Earth:

So, as I said above, Kosovo makes 195.

It helps since when all of the old empires were divided up, they didn't really pay attention to what ethnic groups were where so you ended up having a bunch of different groups that all hate eachother and think they should have their own country, all combined into one country. When you split the countries up then it gives them a chance at becoming stable.

I understand, but this is precisely where the term "Balkanization" comes from: small, broken fragments of countries that are united only in their hatred of their neighbors. These people need to try to work together, which I agree may be impossible. Sort of a mess.

I'm thrilled.
I wouldn't have thought there were many Kosovans in a small city like Cork, but there were dozens of cars flying up and down the quays yesterday with horns blaring, guys hanging out the windows flying Kosovan, Irish and US flags (I believe the Irish government announced they're about to formally recognise Kosovo shortly).
Never seen such a happy group of people, this side of a World Cup anyway!
p.s. How do you recognise a country? "Uhhh, China? No, hang on a sec. France. Didn't wee meet at a party one time? Until you gave me the boot. No, wait, that was Italy..." :p

That's the number recognised by the UN. Actually it's 193 but in total there are around 210-230. seems nobody is exactly sure. For example the Great Britain is one country but made up of of England, Scotland, Wales plus on top of that is Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands.
But all that said, this is good for Kosovo.
1389, anybody?
What about it? assuming you are talking about the Battle of Kosova

Almost sounds like a Robin Williams joke in Good Morning Vietnam. but the boring answer is the Montevideo Convention.
