phenomenal track. Really grew on me. The whole cd is really good. It's 2 cds the first cd is the rap one with big boi, and the second one is the one that hey yah is on. Both are great, but if you're thinking of buying the cd from itunes think again. it's a double cd, so they bang you for $20.00 when I went to best buy and picked it up for $10. (both cds)

My wife digs it alot, so we got it from iTMS and put it on her workout playlist on her iPod. It is a fun and upbeat song. Last time she kinda got into that Ms. Jackson song, so we wasted our cash on the whole CD that we didn't care for. Now we got the one song we like (Clean!).
It's so nice.

God that song might have been bordering on being almost OK the first time I heard it.
Now I want to smash the stereo every time I hear it :(.

Heard the song played once last year on the radio...hated it. I like only a few songs in the genre that goes with OutKast, but that OutKast song is not one that I prefer. That song came off a modern rock station for Pete's sake. (Anybody here named Pete? Don't take offense.)
And who's trash talkin' the radio??

absolutely one of the most annoying songs I have ever been forced to hear over and over and over (living in a dorm has some serious drawbacks sometimes)
not to mention their tasteless stunt at the grammy's

That song makes me want to stab my ear drumbs out with a rusty nail. I can't stand that song. NO tallent what so ever. Anyone with a basic understanding of reason an electronic keyboard and a mic could make that song. Lyricly it sucks too. Yet the song is number one on the charts for weeks now. Outkast is the reason why people call rap music an oxymoron. If only they would play artists that have tallent. Then non rap/hip-hop listeners would have an idea of real rap. I would love to see/hear a freestyle battle between outkast and someone like Genius. No doubt they would loose.
Don't bring up that they play their own instruments.

This is the most tired of all the musical arguments I have ever seen. Just because its not complicated doesn't mean it isn't genius. Its accessible, its catchy, and its funny. If anyone can do it...where's YOUR Hey Ya ? Thats what I thought.

and thats one of the worst comebacks ever. Just because something is succesful doesn't make it good. Look at Windows. As for me and my hey y a, i'd rather come up with something quality than something that will just sell. remember we are talking about the music industry, music as a money making buisness. While some "artists" may have genuine talent and take the time and effort to put out something meaningful, or something fun, or whatever, that doesn't change the fact that alot of people are doing it atleast partly if not mostly for the money.

Absolutely! If I made Hey Ya! I would be ashamed to put my name on it. It has no meaning. Songs like Hey Ya! Lil John's songs, he is in now a millionaire for saying "What?!" and "OK?!" In one song and Kelis's Milkshake. They just do it for the money. Great Dave Chapelle perody BTW! It has no lyrical meaning, and the beat is just as bad. Any rap song in the Billboard top 20 is just about bein' at a club and gettin' caught by my girl. Wow. That takes tallent. The majority of popular rap/hip-hop artists are just recruited by producers, are given a pre-recorded beat and given lyrics to say, along with millions of dollars and fame. I feel very sorry for any singer that don't come up with their own lyrics and then puts their name on it. If the artists that make the popular rap thats on the radio today actually come up with their own lyrics, there even more talentless than I thought.

So true, so true.
I wish more pop hits were like old Mariah ballads (like hero, forever, vision of love, i'm free, etc.) or fun songs like toby lightman's "devils and angels".
I too hate lil' john, 50 cent, Outkast, and other artists that make music with no meaning. I find it amazing that the world isn't sick of hearing about rappers and how many girls they have, how much money that have, what cars they drive, etc.
Rap music has the potential to be very good, ie. Missy Elliott.
But as of now Missy is in a genre of 1 (that genre being good rap music), as much as I don't like that.

I don't want no minute man
Ooooooh, here's your chance be a man take my hand understand
I don't want no minute man
Ohh, ohh, uhh, OOOH

And I'ma give you some attention, tonight
Now follow my intuitions, what you're wishin
See I'ma keep you up all night, for a long time
Just start countin the ways
[Chorus]
Break me off, show me what you got
Cause I don't want, no one minute man
Break me off, show me what you got
Cause I don't want, no one minute man
Break me off, show me what you got
Cause I don't want, no one minute man
Break me off, show me what you got
Cause I don't want, no..
[Missy]
Tonight I'ma give it to you, throw it to you
I want you to come prepared, ohhh yeah (oh yes)(show Me)
Boy it's been a long time, a crazy long time
And I don't want no minute man, and that's real
Give it to me some more
[Chorus]
[Ludacris]
Yeah, uhh, uhh
It's time to set yo' clock back bout as long as you can
I stop daylight and Ludacris the maintenance man
Get your oil changed, I check fluids and transmission
You one minute FOOLS, you wonder why y'all missin
On the back of milk cartons and there's no reward
No regards, close but it's no cigar
A hard head make a soft ass, but a hard dick make the sex last
I jump in pools and make a big splash
Water overflowin, so get your head right
It's all in yo' mind punk so keep your head tight
Enough with tips and advice and thangs
I'm big dog, havin women seein stripes and thangs
They go to sleep, start snorin, countin sheep and ****
They so wet, that they body start to leak and ****
Just cause I'm an ALL-nighter, shoot ALL fire
Ludacris, balance and rotate ALL tires
[Missy]
Ooooooh, I don't want I don't need I can't stand no minute man
I don't want no minute man
Ooooooh, here's your chance be a man take my hand understand
I don't want no minute man
Break me off, show me what you got
Cause I don't want, no one minute man
Break me off, show me what you got
Cause I don't want, no one minute man
Break me off, show me what you got
Cause I don't want, no one minute man
Break-break me off, break break me off
Break break me off, show me what you got
Break me off, show me what you got..
Break me off, show me what you got..
Break me off, show me what you got..
Break me off, break break me off
Oh yeah... Lots of meaning there.
By contrast:
(Big Boi - talking)
One more time for y'all, y-y-yeah, huh
If you didn't know you know now, OutKast, Stankonia
We ****tin on ery'body talkin that ************
(Big Boi)
Now Peter Piper picked a pepper, that was his downfall
I'm down with 'Dre 3000 'cause he got my back y'all
Ball if you want to, but do it with some class G
Ask me, do OutKast got some flows so you can blast me
Nasty, niggaz on the point they see you shinin
Engi-neers in the studio see me rhymin
Don't get me wrong, got four albums; stay consistant
You got a bodyguard, I let my nigga tote the biscuit
Twist ya cap back, you got blood off on ya fur hat
Cap, cap, ya link snap, you slumped off in ya Cadillac
For what though, some diamonds and a Bentley what you dyin for
Aight hoe, I'ma bake my cheese and let my mic flow
Prioritize to live through
Tell these other niggas how you bought yo' kid some tennis shoes
Let these brothers know that your momma she got her house too
Let these niggas know that your sister wouldn't of..
finished.. college.. without you
I doubt you, do that though, so do this here
and keep that ************ out of our ear
You too near me to not hear me, too open to conceal me
The love for the music keepin Big Boi spittin real G
(Hook)
Cause they know where you live and they've seen what ya drive
And they say they gonna put one in your hel-met
Cause you brag 'bout that watch, and all them things that you got
Them dirty boys turn your poundcake to red velvet
(Dre)
How can you measure a nigga by multiple figures he may got, got, got
Had he not purchased the newest Mercedes
that lose it's value soon as you drive that bitch off the lot, lot, lot
Would he still be the latest, most wanted, doggonit you want it
He got it-type nigga 'round the town, town, town
Had he not played it so flat
he ask you when half of these niggas hurtin and workin
Would be he be found, found, found
In a ho (ho) tel (tel) room (room) shot up (shot up)
With his dick shoved in some B got a lot up
Bill Gates don't dangle diamonds in the face
of peasants when he Microsoft'n in the place
You gettin on my nerves, well I'm gettin on your case
Consider your surroundings or you leave without a trace
(Hook)
(Big Boi)
I know you got the biggest bank roll and you ballin
Follow the heater because the leader he is haulin
Ass like Juan Valdez, I think he scared
Cause my nigga Khujo Goodie got that toolie to his head
(Dre)
Little did he know that, waitin in the closet
No matter what you call that, playboy sure got done
Don was the one who came in contact
with those with slow goals who prone to sell crack
On this megaphone, hey look world I'm on
You off, he floss hard cause he celebrate the fact
Little did he know that, waitin in the closet
No matter what you call that, playboy sure got done

Minute Man is a really bad song for showing the personality and thought Missy Elliott puts in her lyrics.
Using one minute man would be like me using Ludacris' "I wanna lick you from your head to your toes" to prove that all rappers only rap about women.
These lyrics are all from 'This is not a test'. If you want even more deep lyrics check out 'Under Construction', which has an inspiring message in between every other song:
From Intro (This is Not a Test):
Check it
As I grab my pad and pen and begin to talk from within
Oh god my eyes water like a preacher whos sinned
I'm only human but, the world has put me on a platform since the day I was born to only wait for my downfall but like a brick wall I'm too hard to break.
Okay I do make mistakes but I'm the realest from the fake.
Thats why I'm the hardest to hate.
Aaliyah baby girl I've learned to love those why they're still awake sleep sleep
And prepare a place for those who are good in the projects and hood
gifted or misunderstood
I know Lisa Pac and Biggy and Jay and Pun are still number one
there will be more of us to come.
I am a leader, teacher, a guider, like a single parent provider
puttin back those hiphop dividers like a priest with a back slider.
I sin but I win
And anyone we've lost in life in 9/11 we'll be sure to see again
From Wake Up (This is Not a Test):
Mother****ers betta wake up, stop sellin crack to the blacks
Hope you bought a spare for your flat
Can't accept me talkin real facts
Down the hill like jill and jack, i speak what yah weak mind lacks
Yah heard that
I'm creative to the fullest what you talkin bout Willis cause your talkin Never kill it
I hear but don't feel it thou ain't realest
Yah just sweet meat in the in the village
Yeah im a down diva done niva
Ya'll not xena heat'll sqeeze into a wife beater
Yep im a top leader
I got the Martin Luther King fever, ima feed yah what yah teacher need to preach yah
Its time to get seious
Black people all areas who gon' carry us it aint time to bury us
Cause music be our first love, say i do lets cherish it
[Chorus]
If you dont gotta gun (its alright)
If yah makin legal money, (its alright)
If you gotta keep yah clothes on, (its alright)
You aint gotta cellular phone, (its alright)
And yah wheels dont spin, (its alright)
And you gotta wear them jeans again, (its alright)
Yeah if you tried oh well, (its alright)
MC's stop the beef lets sell, (its alright)
From Outro (This is Not a Test):
Check it
See I don’t want to say that this is the end
I’ll end by saying this is where we’ll begin
Hip hop is a freedom of expression, not a freedom of depression
Can I make my one suggestion?
Look at how we’re labeled gangsta rappers
Is that their only impression? WAKE UP!!!!!
Rappers are craft art in a rapper’s sport
Someone like a game of basketball can’t be taught
But yet we accept the name thug
Like that’s fly
See how they covered our eyes?
Give us names to separate us
Sit back and watch us beef and make us hate us! SAY WHAT!?!?!
I’m done talking
Mary J. Blige, let ‘em know this is not a test
I hear you calling
The other songs that aren't as 'deep' are mostly all fun songs where the lyrics are mostly unimportant. Like 'work it'. Although the lyrics aren't exactly inspiring they are still amazing. I mean, how often does an artist create a word like "ba dum ba bum bum" ;)?

Okay, so using "Hey Ya" to exemplify Outkast is in the same ballpark. Take a look at tracks like "Toilet Tisha," "Red Velvet," "Get Up, Git Out," "Aquemini," "The Art of Storytelling, Part 1," and "Humble Mumble."
Here's "Humble Mumble":
Andre:
Ahhhh I stank I can, I stank I can
The funky engine that could
Oooo oooo!
yosky wosky, pisky wisky
All aboard the Stankonia Express
The underground smell road
Everybody's lookin' for an excuse to let loose
What's your locomotive, the chatter nigga choo choo
Chorus:
Humble as a mumble in the jungle
Of shouts and screams
That's the way the cracker crumbles
So I guess I've got to re-route my dreams
(repeat)
Big Boi:
Back on the microphone, your number one controller
I rock the microphone like a blizzard
I'm so cold I'm tryin' to hold ya
Life is like a great big roller coaster
Everything in life don't happen like it's suppose to
Trials and tribulations make you stronger live longer
You wanna reach the nation nigga start from ya corner
Everything in life don't always happen like you plan it
Demand it over stand it then you handle it
**** wishing you, you missing the ambition on your mission
Now you switching why you quitting 'cause it's heated in the kitchen
Sloppy slipping in your pimping nigga
You either pistol whoop the nigga or you choke the trigger
You've got to follow through, struggle to complete your dreams
"No Weapon Formed Agains Prospers" 54:17
From Isaiah lay a nigga down and spray 'em
If the dealer dealt a ****ed up hand of cards you've gotta play 'em
(Chorus)
Too Democratic, Republic **** it
We chicken nugget, we dip in the sauce like mop and bucket
Blue-collar scholars, who'll take your dollar and wipe my ass wit it
You living for the lotto never hit it, I met a critic
I made her **** her draws
She said she tought Hip Hop was only guns and alcohol
I said "Oh hell naw!" but yet it's that too
You can't discrimahate cause you done read a book or two
What if I looked at you in a microscope saw all the dirty organisms
Living in your closet would I stop and would I pause it "whoo"
To put that bitch in slower motion, got the potion and the antidote
And a quote for collision the decision
Is do you want to live or wanna exist
The game changes everyday so obsolete is the fist and marches
Speeches only reaches those who already know about it
This is how we go about it
(Chorus)
Erykah Badu:
I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then 1 day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life and that's life
And that's life and that's life
(Chorus)
Andre:
Humble as a mumble in the jungle
Of shouts and screams
That's the way the cracker crumbles
So I guess I've gotta re-route my dreams
Y'all can't harm me, it's over

Wyclef on Dave Chapelle? That was a poor excuse for a song. Repetitive and of pitch, in my opinion. Wyclef's done better.
Hey Ya! rocks, I love that song.
