Does the iphone dock work with the ipod touch?

I accidentally bought an iphone dock off of craigslist, and I meant to get a dock for my ipod touch. The dock connector looks exactly the same, but for whatever reason doesn't fit. Any ideas?

I suspect I should re-sell the item on craigslist and just buy directly from apple.
