Ok...I've ordered the Waterfield sleeve/strap. Its well made and looks very nice. Its definitely my sleeve of choice when I go to the cafe or B&N.

Now for travel, I just got the booq bag Slimcase s90. Again, very nice quality but its really not that slim. I understand it was made for the Macbook and not for the air.

I guess what I'm looking for is a vertical case similar to this, for my travel needs.

http://www.tumi.com/backpacks_messengers/shoulder_bags/category_search/plympton_carry_all/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=101703

I hope somebody will be designing a case that will complement the thinness of the MBA, but also have the ability to carry the following. Power adapter, Travel documents and a kindle and maybe a magazine.

The search continues...

Really the point of an MBA is that it's so thin that it could fit anywhere. So feel free to pop it in a sleeve and throw it into any bag that tickles your fancy.

How about a Zephyr and a Horizontal Brain Cell (size 6X), from Tom Bihn?

Not cheap, but good quality.

I'm waiting on a Ristretto (http://www.tombihn.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=001&Product_Code=TB0223&Product_Count=&Category_Code=) vertical messenger bag by Tom Bihn, designed specifically for the MBA, and due early March. Only weighs 14oz, 12.5x10.5x3". Sounds perfect for my needs. Nothing wrong with the Zephyr (http://www.tombihn.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=001&Product_Code=TB0720&Product_Count=&Category_Code=), but it weighs more than the MBA!

hey this tom bihn is also supposed to be very nice and the brain cell fits inside of there soft sided briefcases and they are very nice also. I travel for work and would not use the tom bihn if you are trying to impress but if you do not care what it looks like it is th best usability wise.

I have the Waterfield MBA vertical sleeve. And I also ordered the rings, so I could attach a strap, and carry over my shoulder.

They also sell a piggyback that will snap onto the rings. Large enough for me, and my other stuff. I like to travel light.

All of us old guys really can appreciate the MBA.

I just bought this today:

http://www.ebags.com/timbuk2/commute_medium/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=104381

I will post pics of my Macbook Air in it as soon as I get it. I have a BuiltNY that I bought and the side pocket isn't big enough for the cables and stuff.

I decided for this one

Quite expensive but very safe for the computer and I can fulfill all my needs.....

havent you seen tha macbook air add, its supposed to be mailed in a padded envelope, thats how its ultramobile, you dont even need to carry it, its delivered. but ya know youll get more chicks if carry it around naked, dont forget there are laptop backpacks, which is much better for your back than a shoulder strapp or briefcase type. and their less likely to get stolen

I don't know about you guys but this one (http://www.booqbags.com/s.nl/it.A/id.65/.f?sc=13&category=-113) looks pretty sweet to just throw in a backpack or something.

I've received my booq Folee II yesterday, good quality, loads of space, will make a great travel companion.

Note that booq's Vyper XS2 is not a snug fit for the MBA. Better than no sleeve, but hopefully Booq will offer one that's snug.

I'll put it up for sale if anyone is interested. :)

hmm, to stay with the envelope theme for a sleeve (Obviously not a case):

1. Higher end from Timbuku (http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/cms/macbookair/macbookair.htm), the "Steve Sleeve" (not yet available)

2. Cheap Vinyl-y thing (http://www.manilamac.com/) the "AirMail"

3. Interoffice Mail. (http://interofficemac.com/) Even uglier than 2, made with way too bright yellow cheesy vinyl and nasty yellow zipper

4. Silly home made style (http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-your-own-Macbook-Air-TM-Padded-Envelope-sle/) with instructions

I may make one based on the Timbuku model, but use velcro for extra security (Red string for show only). I'll hit the fabric store and see if I can find the right material.

I bought one of these (http://www.goincase.com/products/detail/13-nylon-sleeve-plus-cl57071). The MBA fits perfectly, snug but not a tight squeeze. I also have room for any accessories I might need - for example, working onsite with my current client I toss the ethernet dongle, a WD USB drive, iPhone sync cable, micro-dvi adapter, business card holder, and my usb key in the front pockets. Sometimes my Superdrive.

Nice and functional, nice and light, and fits everything I need.

That one isn't bad but the zipper would scare me as I slid the notebook into it...over the zipper...shudder.

Yesterday, I bought the same bag at the Apple store. It's light, just the right size and holds my MBA securely. I like the bag's small form factor, just like the MBA. It forces me to carry just the basics.

As much as I've always thought a sleeve/bag was just another thing to lug around, it would seem I may get one for my Air. Mine already got 4 beauty marks from throwing it around. All are right on sharp edge of lid. Not bad, just wee little dents/nicks that show the black underbelly. Have drug it through 8 airports already and associated x-ray devices and the edge nicks rather easily. A bag may or may not help me but when a super slim one gets available that will fit in briefcase, I'll give it a try.

In the meantime, I'll get a silver sharpie/gelpen to try and pretty her back up.
My precciioussss.

@MazingerZ:

Could you please give more details about the overall capacity of the Booq Boa Slim Case S90?

I am considering buying one because it looks nice and slim but I am afraid it would be too small for normal usage...

I purchased a Manila Mac and it's great. The only thing is that at $40, I feel that it is overpriced and I probably wouldn't pay that for the thing. I just checked the website and it looks like they aren't making them anymore. Interoffice has an alternative at a cheaper price. The quality looks better as well judging from the pictures.

I spent ages looking for a bag with pretty much those requirements. In the end I chose this the STM Small Loft. I got it through Amazon for £35.

It's really designed for the Macbook, so it fits the MBA fine, is padded, but not particuarly thick. It has a separate pocket that wouls fit a couple of magazines or a folder.

The front contains pockets for the power adapter and cables. There are also zippered pockets on the front flap, and in the back. It also has a removable mobile phone pocket on the strap

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2215/2395828963_d483b557a7.jpg

I also bought a sleeve from http://tillymoss.com/. These are handmade and are linen with a fleece lining. Not much protection, but adds very little thickness to the MBA and will at least stop scratches if in a bag with anything else.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3188/2396676410_6d5d04f12c.jpg

It was surprisingly cheap, and I have to say its exceptionally well made. The lady that sells them also contacted me a couple of weeks later to ask if I had any problems with sleeve - so a thumbs up for customer service too!

I've thrown a few more photos of each case on Flickr if you want to see more detail. http://www.flickr.com/photos/nezgsy/sets/72157604430722097/

Thanks for the pics. that linen thing is a great looking sleeve! i'd probably order the red one on their website... :p

what do you guys think about this one:
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=400063

it looks rather minimalistic and industrial, but i'm not sure how much cushion it provides. the plus is that you could carry with with the shoulder strap, or remove it entirely.

i also like a document case made by louis vuitton, but i should probably save the money for 3G iPhone. :D

I purchased this Belkin bag a month ago.

http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=400063

I haven't heard of many other users who have used it but it a good value for $30. The zipper has something of a gusset around the zipper to prevent scratching and it lined with a soft velour on the interior. Padded on all sides with an adjustable strap. Common. One color (at the time). But I can carry it solo or stuff it easily into a larger shoulder bag without a lot of bulk.

Just my 2Ę.

Like Clay, I've ordered a case from http://www.vajacases.com/

Chose the Biscotti slipcase and a matching Biscotti case for the iPhone.

I've got a CaseLogic slipcover which works--- But the quality looks excellent from Vaja in Argentina.

Also here's a modern minimalist briefcase to slip everything into... perfect for the Air. I used to lug around a bulky leather bag from Levenger. This sleek case is lightweight and easy to carry.

Anyone end up with the ristretto messenger from Tom Bihn? I'm looking for a somewhat similar solution and might settle with it, though since it works with both the MBA and MB, is there a lot of wiggle room if its a MBA in there? Thats my primary concern. I'm trying to look at the pics

http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/200/TB0223

and it im still confused about whether the case has a front cover or not.

Typically, i'm carrying a incase backpack with a waterfield sleeve. Love the protection I get from it, but I think it would be nice to have a solution like the ristretto to carry it around when I don't need to carry a ton of other stuff without lugging a backpack, though I still want to be able to carry a journal and book or two with me.

Any close up pics/reviews you guys can offer?

Just got my STM Small Alley last week. The MBA looks a little lost in the laptop compartment (which is a snug fit for the MB!), but it doesn't move inside when I carry the bag, so it's okay. Now I've even got some space for a book in the laptop compartment.

For 39$, shipping from USA to Switzerland included, this is a steal (ordered from RadTech with 15% off coupon).

STM small alley is the best. Holds everything but it's still light, attractive, and durable. Needs a sleeve though but I find the sleeve is good to put the air on if there isn't an adequate table.

That is a slight oxymoron.

If we are talking actually ultimate, some companies will build you whatever you want. I have a couple of bags from Swaine Adeney Brigg (http://www.swaineadeney.co.uk/bespoke/index.html) for example.

How about a backpack? This seems to be a slightly different trend - a sort of classier, compact Axio.

I have the Tom Bihn bag you mentioned in your post, same color in fact. Great bag, has a built in padded sleeve with closure for your MBA and actually has room for another 13 inch computer outside the sleeve, un-padded, but still inside the bag. Has plenty of room in the front pocket for cords, mouse, pens, pencils, peanuts, popcorn, crackerjack, well, you get the idea. Bag has a flap to keep everything covered and secure. With the MBA only inside it is very light.
I have had the Waterfield bags as well. They too are nice bags and you canít go wrong with them. I prefer the Tom Bihn, but that is just personal preference.
