That would be pretty funny/encouraging if true.

I watched MacWorld and the press afterwards and Apple seemed to focus on the MacBook Air and talk about rentals as a side-note.

Even in the Apple Store, the Apple TV is tucked away and there are big MacBook Air posters everywhere.

Frankly, I heard about the MacBook Air and I was like, "So what?". I really don't need a laptop that is 3 pounds instead of 5, and I think all of its lack of ports and features make it sort of an impractical novelty.

The Apple TV, on the other hand, inspired me to buy not only the 40 GB Apple TV, but the 52" HDTV to go along with it (since my old TV didn't have the proper ports)!

I mean, Apple is the first vendor to get all the major movie studios on board to offer movies over the internet. That's huge!

Apple has a ways to go before the system is perfect, but with that development they could dominate the movie industry like they dominate the music industry!

Too bad Apple doesn't seem to realize it.

That's the most frustrating part. Like I'm sure they realize it, but just aren't acting. They're in a position where there isn't really dominant player in the internet VOD (whatever you want to call it, Vudu, Xbox Live, even like Netflix). At least there doesn't really seam to be a perceived leader to general public. They're in a real position to really grab the lead, they just have to act on it and do something.

EDIT: I forgot to mention an example. Though there is no chance of it happening, but something like and easy way to import your own DVD collection onto your computer to use with AppleTV would really be something that would get people out to buy them

I bought my 160 gig last week and they had to dig at the Apple store to find one. They had around 10 or so 40 gigs and maybe 2 160s left.

Isn't "Family Guy" the first DVD to actually have a video file on the DVD you can use on a computer or iPod (and thus, the AppleTV)?

A buddy in KC bought the last 40g a few days ago (they didn't have any 160g) at the Apple store there.

I was in Best Buy yesterday and they were out of both.

Heading to the Apple Store in Denver later today...I'll update what I find.

Apple's playing with our minds like what Nintendo is doing with the Wii....

I had this problem a few weeks ago in the UK where there just seemed to be very few of the 160Gb model anywhere. But Apple themselves have always had them in stock. I think the Take 2 announcement did have a positive effect on sales.

That would do wonders for Apple's relationships with the studios.

(PS: Google handbrake)

I wouldn't be suprised if the lack of strong advertising for the ATV is to see how the actual launch of Take 2 went. see how people react that already own the machine, get some feedback, make some changes.......get some more titles up...and then market the **** out of it.

Intrestingly enough:

I was just over at Circuit City over lunch to grab their last Toshiba A3 HD DVD player for $99.

They had just finished setting up an AppleTV display.

My Costco was selling the last of their AppleTV's for $90 so I bought them all and put them on eBay. I already have one from when they first came out for $299 and love mine. It does what I expected it to do.

My sentiment exactly, it's an open beta test. I need to get involved. ;)

Rip, encode, send back DVD.

Is that so tough to grok?

Not that I'd do that.

I had to take a 'dead' 160 GB Apple TV to the Apple Store yesterday.

It was 9 days out of the 14 day return period.

I fell in love with the Apple Genius as she handed over to me a brand new, retail packaged, 160GB Apple TV.

They had nothing to say as to why the 3 week old one died, it just wouldn't power up.

So as of yesterday the Apple Store in Towson, Maryland had well, at least the one I got.

Pretty sure he meant resemble, as it is a fairly common witticism.

Wait a minute... maybe your statement was in fact a joke by playing the faux naive card. If so, touche. If not, eek.

Yes, that's it. Thanks for clearing that up on my behalf. I'm sure most people couldn't parse that joke. You must be a lot of fun at parties, too.

Last week I went to the Apple store on Long Island to get a 40 gig and they were sold out. This was my fourth apple tv purchase and the previous three times there was no issue (3 in my house, the fourth was for my father). The guy at the store seemed surprised because he went into the back to get one with no implication that they wouldn't have one and came back a while later to tell me the 40 gigs were out but they had 160s left.

That's funny. I put my Netflix account onhold after I got the 160GB apple tv.
