Thin Lizzy and The Indulgers also covered this tune, with the Indulgers the better version. Unfortunately, Apple deleted the The Indulgers CELTIC TIGER from iTMS which contained Whiskey...

I don't believe I've ever heard the original, but both the Thin Lizzy and Metallica versions are excellent.

well, its one of those irish songs that has been passed on through the years, so i don't think anyone could tell you who wrote the song. the original was probably some guy sitting on a stool. that said, i love the thin lizzy version. absolutely love it. and the dubliners, and the chieftans...

I love the Metallica version of this song. Avoid the video though, unless you're a sex-starved teenage boy - the only good part is at the end when Lars is too much of a weakling to kick over an amp stack or something (vague memory).
