Hey guys,
I may want to buy a PS3 or Wii to replace a broken DVD player in our house.
(have to convince my dad too...)
Doesn't need to include games or DVDs...just adds to the price.

Let me know what you have by way PM or the thread, please include a price too!

Thanks

I might be wrong (often am), but I don't think the Wii plays DVDs. I've got one, and it doesn't seem to, but it would be nice if it did, because I could get rid of a box under the TV. (They just seem to keep piling up, eh?)

I thought about selling my Wii 'round Christmas when they were fetching $1k and up. If you want to spend a fortune, I'll be glad to sell you this one. Are they still selling over retail?

FWIW, you can get a Progressive scan DVD player for pennies now, and HDMI upconvertors are under $100.

I can imagine you're right about the Wii...unfortunately they aren't for a grand anymore...

The Wii is my dad's idea for some fun, the PS3 is a my idea to replace our DVD player and play BlueRay.

Wii's definitely do not play DVD's. I own a Wii, and find it to be a lot of fun. I have yet to meet anyone who hasn't wanted to have a go at it, regardless of age, or usual disinterest in video games. However, the PS3 is something I'm drooling over, and likely to purchase within the week. Good luck with your search. If you do decide to go with the Wii, PM me for some good deals on games that I suck at. ;)

I did a little googling on the Wii and DVD capability.
Looks like it was a planned update (in 2007) but for the Japan version only, not US. Something to do with paying the extra $$$ for DVD licensing.

My wife loves the Wii, and it's a great party game. Sheesh, I never thought I'd say something even that geeky, but yes, the Wii is a fun-with-friends kind of cocktail party thing.

I'll have to say there is a very unique "fun" quality to the Wii due to the interactive wireless remote thingy. You look stupid as hell boxing thin air with a couple remote controls in your hands, standing next to your wife doing the same thing, but it is absolute LOL fun. I just used LOL and talked about gaming with my wife.... this is getting out of hand.

OMG

WTF

I'm old. I played Atari Pong. I had Pac Man "Fever". I'm too old to be playing video games.

Gotta go, my turn to bowl.

well, it certainly sounds like the wii is quite popular and fun! Probably the best thing to do is buy a wii and a plain DVD player. I'll probably have more fun with the wii than the ps3 as I love sportier games.

Looking for wii offers!

Thanks!

I have a wii and a ps3 and would gladly choose the ps3 over the wii. there is a very small number of worthwhile games for wii, while i think the ps3 is one of my favorite tech purchases in the last couple years, plus it can do everything and you dont need to buy any add ons whatsoever(wireless module, batteries, HD-DVD add on dri...err nevermind, memory anything, etc)

I have both (PS 3 & Wii). These 2 systems are VERY different. And so are the selection of games for each. I suggest you take a look at the games and let that drive your purchasing decision.
