I'm interested to know what my powerbook may be worth now. I haven't really seen any instances of people selling them.
I have a powerbook G4 1.5 ghz processor. The lower ram slot went out on me last three days ago. I've tried all the tips like reseating, blowing them out, etc but nothing works. So I'm pretty positive it's the lower ram slot.
Anyway, I'm curious how much the thing is worth now. The top slot still works fine and so far the computer is running fine.
Apple Powerbook G4 1.5 ghz processor
1 gig ram (fully working in top slot)
160 gig HD
2x superdrive
10.4 fully loaded.
Original Box and maintenance DVD's
Any ideas what I might be able to get out of it?

I'm guessing this is the 15" model? I sold mine last month with similar specs except it had a 80GB 5400rpm HD, 128MB VRAM, and 1.25GB RAM for $725. Granted you're going to take a loss for the fried lower RAM slot. I imagine it would fetch around $500-$600 on eBay.
Edit: Of course it would also depend on the cosmetic condition of your PB. Mine was relatively flawless, save for one small hairline scratch on the bottom.

It's a long shot, but you might want to consider calling Apple about this. I say that because there was a "recall" of sorts on 15" PowerBooks from summer of 2005 (I think) that had bad lower RAM slots. I had a couple at the school I work at, and while they were covered under AppleCare, there was a campaign posted by Apple at one time about the failure.
WTH, don't cost nothin, and the worst thing they can do is say "No."

the recall is still listed on the support page, but you have to check numbers to see if you are in the range. page is HERE (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303173
). best of luck.

I have a Powerbook G4 15" Aluminum 1.67ghz with 1gb ram and 80gb HD. A few cosmetic scratches and dings.
I'm looking do do one of three things.
I would like some assistance in repair.
Trade for a laptop x86 1ghz+ or Asus EEE-PC.
Sell to for a reasonable price.
I bought this from a person who needed money for other more important smokable substances and as a result it has not been treated as well as I usually would treat my equipment.
It has the lower memory slot problem (also has a serial number in the range covered by the repair extension program).
Recently the Super Drive has just gone bad it spits the cd's back out without spinning them up.....
Also the battery life is only at 67% charge, probably just due to an aging battery.
I noticed a few people here are looking for a powerbook g4... don't get me wrong it works flawlessly in all other aspects. Osx 10.5 Leopard and Office 2008 and has done me well for most of my college papers.

Alright well... based on the information given I have decided to actually sell this thing. Again, so far everything is working fine with only one slot of memory.
I would like to get $500 or best offer. Here is what I am including in the entire package. I would rather sell here then give ebay a cut but if nothing happens here I'll go that route.
• 15" Powerbook G4 1.5 Ghz
• 1 gig memory
• recently upgraded 160 gig hard drive
• Fresh install of leopard, but I will include 10.4 tiger disc and box
• Original box and booklets
• Original discs that come with computer
• Digital to VGA Cable
• S-Video to RCA
• 2 Batteries (One is fairly new that stays in the computer, the other does not hold a charge very long but would work great if the computer is always plugged in).
• 2 Power cords (One for home, one for work. The newer one is in a little better condition and works a little better/easier).

If you can still get the logic board repaired under the campaign, I would say it's worth more than $500. This is one of the last PowerPC notebooks they made, and a sweet one at that (I had one of these before I moved up to my MBP.)
Just my $0.02.

I called this morning and it's not in the same range as the computers that are eligible for the repair.
It was actually kind of funny, the operator gets back on the line and says... "I'm sorry sir, our records indicate that your computer does not show to have this problem." I started laughing and she changed what she was saying to "Apple did not extend the repair to your range of serial numbers"
So it's still for sale on here till this afternoon then I'm going to put it up on Ebay.
