Hi,

Tomorrow is the first day I will use my MBA (very "Xmas Eve" type excitement ! :D)...

And the first time I use a Mac in 12 yrs ;) !

Therefore I need advice from those who know: what are the things I have to do just after I have opened up the (beautiful) box ?

Two steps gathered from the different threads... What else ??

[Will keep on updating as answers are provided:]

1. Standard check: casing, dead pixel, kb backlight, drive,....

2. Clean install (thanks to clayj for the great thread)

3. Update of Leopard version to 10.5.2

4. Calibration of the battery
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh2339.html

5. ???

Others (softwares, downloads):

- perian
- flip4mac
- sizzling keys

Thanks...

i would say first thing is to check to make sure everything is how it should be, i.e. no defects, no dead pixels, kb backlight good, etc. the basics.

switch 3 and 4 around. you could probably drain the battery while you do the updates. you could also plan to install other things like perian (http://perian.org/) or flip4mac (http://www.flip4mac.com/) to help you play avi and wmv files.

i also love sizzling keys (http://www.yellowmug.com/sk4it/).

Makes sense...

Regarding battery calibration: I think there was a thread going through a step by step. Can't find it anymore... Anybody would know where to locate it ?

you can find instructions on apple's site here (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh2339.html).

But, heh, maybe that's just me being cynical.
