External Monitor in windows XP

I know there has been a few posts about this, but still there has been no answer. When booting in windows XP the my monitor will stay black and the screen will appear on the laptop screen. Even after changing it in the control panel it will not save if the computer is restarted or turned off. Is there any way or any fix to keep my external monitor as the default monitor. (I have also tried to set it as the default monitor in desktop preferences). Any help would be appreciated.

This is something I'd like answered in general, too. I posted in a separate thread about my specific issue of Netflix Watch Instantly in XP on my MacBook. Do *any* types of video output work from an XP boot camp partition?
