I picked up an :apple:tv this week and I want to start ripping and encoding my DVDs.

My goals are high quality video (for display on 65 inch TV) and 5.1 sound but keeping the file size at a decent level.

I messed around with Handbrake and Visual Hub and I notice Handbrake is encoding at 720x400 and Visual Hub at 852x480. I like that Handbrake can do 5.1 and AAC so I can still watch the videos on my iMac but I am concerned with the difference is video sizes. Should I be??

I would trade the AAC from Handbrake for better video from Visual Hub if needed.

I need help so I can start the long encoding process. Any suggestions and tips would be great.

Thanks

You do not have anamorphic turned on in HB.

Can you explain how I do this??

Anamorphic appears to be set to strict by default when I choose the AppleTV preset

WEll, if anamorphic is on, you will not get a 700 x 400 file (unless its hard letterboxed which I doubt) Is your source anamorphic ? What do the dimensions read in the picture preview window right under the preview. If anamorphic is on there should be three sets of dimensions shown. Source, Output, and Anamorphic.

I don't know what anamorphic is, I am very new to video encoding.
I am trying to encode the 1989 Batman movie which was ripped using Mac The Ripper. My first attempt was with VisualHub, according to iTunes the files size is 852x480.

When I load the same source into HandBrake I get these dimensions
Source 720x480
Output 716x478
Anamorphic 848x478 Strict

I also noticed my video created with VisualHub seems to go out of sync, then I pause and then play and it will come back into sync but eventaully go back out of sync. Is this because I am streaming (Airport Extreme N) or was the Visual Hub encode just bad??

Thanks for the assistance
