iMac screen issues: are they gradual? [Archive]

I am currently saving up for an iMac and have noticed that there are some display issues with its glossy screen. For instance, the gradient issues.

Do these issues appear gradually or do they appear straight away?

I don't have one, but from what I've read, they're immediate.

I've read lots of posts about people just getting their new imac and being pissy because of the gradient.

Though, keep in mind it's not on every single one, and calibrating the display seems to help quite a bit.

Right away. Do a search and you'll find a back-breaking amount of posts regarding this...

Gradient problems should be immediately apparent. However, I have one that actually had a gradient that gradually diminished. After I first started it I immediately rang Apple and set up a pickup date for the machine. In the interim 4 days the backlighting evened out and I ended up cancelling it. From the beginning it was just bad when the machine was cold anyway and would get better within 15-20 minutes of use.

Mine may be a freak case but I'm not complaining. This is a replacement LCD panel for the one that shipped with the machine because of a minor scratch on the original screen. It's all good.

Thanks for the input. Once I buy my iMac, I will check it for any screen defects. Hopefully the screen issues will be diminished after the next update :)

As far as I can tell, it's a hardware issue, not software. So an update won't be fixing anything display related. Unless of course you meant hardware update, which would render my point moot.

I meant the hardware update; which should be around the corner.
