Getting the "#" symbol - how?

G4 iMac, Mac OS 9.2 - the Apple Pro Keyboard I have doesn't have the # symbol on it. I've tried using control, alt, shift and command with the regular keys - 1, q, [, etc. I've tried looking in the Key Caps thing that the Help on the computer suggested to me - I just can't see it anywhere.

I'm currently just pasting a # that a mate sent to me after he stopped laughing.....

So, is there anyway to type it? IRC is really hard to use without it.

Isn't it just shift 3... I would assume it would be the same anywhere, are you down under?

Under OS 9.

Click on the Apple Menu...

Look for "Key Caps"

Should bring up a keyboard, when you hit shift, option, shift-option, etc. the letters on the keyboard will change to show you what you'd type.

Works with the current font, or other fonts.

And the pound is the 3 (above the w & e) -- # or £

James - Shift 3 is the £ symbol..... I'm in Britain.

Sorry, I should have said that - :o - but I thought this was an American keyboard (the @ and " are in the wrong places for a UK keyboard).


Sun Baked - tried that. Shift, etc, it's not there.

In the UK keymap Option-3 is the norm, does that work?

Lot's more symbols, letters, etc. are available with shift, option, & shift-option...

Including some of the two-stroke characters. é î ü etc.

Not everybody remembers where they are, which is why the program is occasionally helpful. ;)
