I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I've searched and can't find anything close to my problem.

Since yesterday the volume on my mac mini is randomly muting itself, I'm happily working away and I get the transparent volume icon thing (see attached) pops up then it just stays there. Noting I can do removes it, trying to change the volume does nothing - it just mutes itself again.

I've tried re-starting but it does help - but putting it to sleep then waking it gets rid of the icon and let's me adjust the volume again.

Any ideas on how to stop this?

Mac Mini - 1.83Ghz - Leopard 10.5.2.

The problem went away for a while, now it's back with a vengance.

Anybody have any ideas, before I resinstall the OS?
