Indonesia has issued a tsunami warning because of a powerful earthquake off the island of Sumatra.
The quake had a magnitude of 7.2, according to an official from the country's geophysics agency.
Indonesia suffers from frequent earthquakes and lies on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, one of the world's most seismically active areas.
An earthquake off Indonesia triggered the 2004 Asian tsunami, which killed approximately 220,000 people.BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/7262454.stm). No more info than that at the moment.
7.2 is pretty big though eh?

Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_Indian_Ocean_earthquake) says that the 2004 one was ~9.1-9.3 though. Hopefully this time round won't be as bad.

I just felt the tremors over where I am at, in Singapore, about a couple of hours ago. The building shook noticeably and we were wondering if we should evacuate.

Tsunami warning was cancelled. Ring of fire earthquakes can be some big shakers. They just had an 8.4 last Sept.
I've been through some smaller ones and unless your outside I think they are really creepy.

I'm still waiting for a landslide off the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands to happen. Will be sometime before that happens thankfully.

You know, I'd rather NOT have that happen.
At least, not a slide off the west side.

I hope you are kidding because there is nothing fun about them. Nor would I consider the decent sized one I went through a worthwhile experience. What I could not believe was that the training they do in elementary school worked for me many years later.
Got woken up by the quake at 4:00AM and went straight to a doorway and waited it out.

4am? you must be from southern cali then ;) (I was in the northridge quake too) but it was too friggin violent for me to walk with any stability so I fell over trying to get away from the falling glass. it just plain sucked.
Meh, only people who have never been terrified by experiencing a big earthquake will say "oh cool, I want to feel one" because it really sucks when it actually happens.
coincidentally England just had a 5.3 (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=5050004) which is big for this region. (but I didn't feel it)
