best way to organize home movies

Any suggestions on how to organize home movies separate from handbraked DVDs? It is starting to get confusing having one long list - submenus would be even better but I haven't been able to find a good way to do this. Thanks for any help.

The way I do this is to label all of my home movies (video transfered from years of video tape of the family) as TV Shows, then the name of the TV show for each is "Home Movie". The final result is a TV show called "Home Movies" with each of the video clips showing as an "episode" of the TV Show. This gives me the main menu and submenu of the various clips.

Agree. Then I name each movie beginning with a number (ie, 1 for oldest) so they are sorted chronologically.

i arrange all my pic / vid date into years .. the i use something like 07 02 14 which would signify 2007 feb 14 ! lol and everything falls into order if you follw the same format works great for me ! ;-)

so 2007 > 07 02 14

it allows super wuick easy access in fat file systems as well as osx :-) even sumple enough for the gf to figure out :-) lol that saves me lots of head aches :-)

I do roughly the same. Home movies are tv shows, I have each year as a season (2007, 2006, 2005, ...) which is nice now that apple tv gives the divider bar, and I put the month number as the episode number (1=jan...). This sorts by year then by month without having to play around with the movie name, it doesn't sort within month but I really don't need that level of granularity.

I do the same for kids movies (disney movies, willy wonka, ...), i have a dedicated show for them, though I do not break them into multiple season. Makes it easy for my 7 year old to look for one of her movies without having to deal with the long list of grown up movies.

Very nice addition. I like that. It gives good organization and flexibility to add clips continually and still keep the date organization that seems like renaming the files themselves would not give you. I just reorganized my files in iTunes following this suggestion. Quick and easy.

I have a TV show on iTunes called Home Movies, but it is a cartoon about an 8 year old who makes movies. It's pretty hilarious.
