I just picked up a new Macbook Pro just last week, and had a few quick questions.
1. How do you clear the history in the web page address bar? I can't stand typing www.e and it pulls up ebay or espn.
2. How do you clear the history in the Google search bar?
Thanks,

No, the Reset Safari option doesn't actually have to reset safari. It contains a number of 'cleaning' options, such as deleting history, deleting google searches, etc. You can choose only the ones that you want.

You can go to History and select Clear History.

Nice. Thanks! I'll give it a try when I get home.

Thanks for all the help guys. My wife tells me I didn't explain my question properly.
How do I stop Safari and Google from autofilling text in either the web address or in the google search field?
thanks

The auto-filling of web addresses comes from your collected history, so deleting this will stop it from happening. :)
To stop your previous searches from showing in Google, you can choose 'Remove other AutoFill form text' when selecting Reset Safari.

If you want to stop stuff from going into your history for the current session, go to the Safari menu and select "Private Browsing".

This is good for when you're shopping for people's Christmas gifts on a shared computer, or any other (ahem) time you don't need anybody knowing what sites you've been to.
This is reset the next time you restart Safari.

Is there any way to see the history once it's been cleared? Does the computer keep track somewhere else?

Then what's the point of clearing it? :) Maybe buried deep in the bowels, you could find something thought to have been deleted -- but I doubt it would be something readily accessible.

Why would you want to do this? It sounds like someone is looking to see if their tracks are covered with the delete. Stick to the private browsing if that's the case.

Not quite what you think . . . Just an overprotective mom trying to be prepared should the need arise.
