hello,
does the DVD drive on macbooks have region settings. for example would a macbook bought in the USA work on UK purchased DVDs? my intial thoughts are that you have to set the region upon intial bootup of the mac.
any help would be appreciated.

Yes, it does. It is initial set to the region of purchase, but can be changed up to 5 times before it becomes locked.

ok cool. does that mean 5 changes for a one off DVD play, and then it auto reverts back to the country of purchase, or is it a permanet switch to a region of your choice?
thanks for your speedy response.

5 changes then it'll be locked into what you changed it to last.
