... I'm still glad I went with the MBA. Sure, the speed gap between it and the new MB/MBP models is even wider than before, and the new machines have tons more hard drive space...

... but what makes the MBA unique is still its small size, silent operation, and overall sexiness. The MBs and MBPs are better than they were, but they're still different from the MBA.

I'd agree. I personally like the style of the MacBook Air over the MacBook Pro. Granted, its more powerful, but I hardly need the extra power (so far... everything runs fine without TOO much lag... coming from an old Compaq Tablet PC TC1000 then switched to a MacBook, it was like.. heaven. haha). Also, its cheaper :p

Plus we have a higher L2 Cache then the base model.. which is always nice. lolz... but its all upto personal preference. I like the Air more then the MBP, other people hate the air and the mbp but like the mb... and so on.

I am very, very happy with my MBA and not at all regretful that I bought it. Sure, there are some things that one of the new MBPs would do that my MBA can't but not too many, and I have other machines already which can do those tasks. I treasure my MBA for its elegance, its downright sexiness, its amazing functionality in such a slim, lightweight package, and its ease of use wherever I might be in the house.

Since purchasing my Macbook Air, I was worried that Apple would come out with Macbook Pros that were thinner and incorporated the same fantastic keyboard that the Air has, which would have tempted me. But after seeing how lackluster the MBP update is, I'm definitely not disappointed.

Coming from a MBP 17", the Air is just an absolute joy to work on. This is the best keyboard I have ever typed on, and for whatever strange reason applications launch and get going faster on my Air than my 17" MBP. Very happy with my purchase and even more so today.

I just bought my second one this morning (told in another thread), and I'm still happy I went with the Air. :D

Yeah i still find no speed issues with my 1.8/SSD. Everything runs just fine. a few choppy animations, but that would happen with the macbooks too due to integrated graphics.

Still happy with my MBA purchase...MBA is sleeker and the power is just right for me...for someone who travels a lot the MBA is still the way to go

Seeing the update made it even sweeter that I got the Air when I did.

Macbook Air & CD Macbook Pro 17" Combo, can't beat that.

As nice as the new Pros are, I just dont think I could use anything else now. The Air is by far the nicest computer I have ever used and for me, fits my needs perfectly.

As someone who has an iMac, MBP, MB and now MBA I can tell you that I love the MBA and iMac the most. I'm going to sell my MBP and MB even though they're less than 1yr old. I can finally work with the MBA on my lap - much cooler and lighter than the MB and MBP.

Btw, it looks like you can get the new mbp with a led screen. look at the apple store, you can get a led upgrade for $100. The new mbp's seem great, but I like my air.

I <3 my MBA. The only thing I wished it had was matte screen and an ethernet port. I can live with one usb.

I have no regrets at all with the purchase of my MBA, very very happy with it, I guess it all comes down to what your planning on using it for, I mainly use mine around the house to check emails, view photos, communicate with friends using iChat, load songs to my ipod and even some photo editing, its plenty for me ! :)

Its the most sexiest looking notebook that Apple has ever made, in fact the most sexiest notebook in the world today ! And for a first time mac user, im in love with Mac OSX :D

I wonder did Apple asked Intel to shrink the Penryn processor for the Air,
or the normal mobile version as found in MB/MBP's... Anyone know? If it's the regular one, isn't it a little waste of money considering it's dated technology?

Presumably the next MBA will be a SFF Penryn or Montevina. And no, it's not a waste of money; the Merom in the MBA works just fine.

Same here. Was a bit nervous that the new MB or MBP would be toodifferent/great versus the MBA... But nothing to worry about: the MBA is a great machine ! :)

I love my MBA, but the $3K cost is way too high. I am on the fence with selling it and replacing it with a Macbook, but I am tired of the plastic design and the no multi touch trackpad!

Just curious, do you actually use the multi-touch features? I thought they were cool in the keynote, and I played with them for a little while after getting my MBA, but I never actually use them.

I actually use it all the time !

I like the fact that you can do pretty much everything with your cursor and windows never having to click... Find it intuitive and addictive... :)

MBA is priced WAY too high. Maybe at $1399 it's worth it but obviously its feature set doesn't compare to the MBP, which is only $200 more.

Good for you if you overpaid for the latest and greatest -- kind of like those overeager technophiles who got tricked on $600 iphones when they first came out.

New Mac user here. I was on the fence of getting the Air but wanted to wait to see if there were any bugs with all the new technology. Then the MBP came out yesterday.

Price wise with the student discount MBP is $1799, MBA is $1699. I couldn't resist the bang for the buck and went ahead with a MBP purchase. More speed, upgradeable ram, bigger HD, DVD drive, etc... are hard to pass up. Plus you still have the 5hr battery, and newer/cooler CPU. All this for an extra $100 & an additional 2.4lbs over the Air.

I was in the same situation with the student discount, but went the other way. Weight is a big issue, as I use a cane. And I already have a 15" laptop at the house which is only a month or so old. Plus the LED screen is the best I've ever seen.

If they had introduced Macbooks with a backlit keyboard, I may have been a little "miffed". I think people who have never had a laptop with a keyboard that lights up, underestimate how great it is.

Now, if only I could get my Air to charge a little faster I would be in heaven.

My Air stayed in my laptop bag all day yesterday and when I pulled it out this morning, the battery life was already down to 77%. I hope that is not "normal"

"

That's the main reason I went with the Pro and not the standard macbook. I do a lot of work at night. I only wish Apple would add an SD card slot.

I do use the multi touch more than I imagined. Mostly when surfing the web. I like how you can go back and forward using the web browser. The keyboard is pretty cool too (love how it lights up).

That said I also like the thought of $2K in my pocket and using a Macbook for a few more months.

Well, I suppose if you don't really travel very much, that is a valid comparsion. But travelling 16 days a month with a MBP just wouldn't work, and therefore be a waste of money.

I waited to see what the MBP update was. If they had made it a pound lighter it would have been a tough choice. But they didn't, so I ordered my MBA yesterday.

The Air doesn't even compete with the plain old Mac Book. Especially now. Look at the specs of a $1500 Blackbook against an Air.

Frankly they are far more computer for $300 less.

I don't get it?

I agree with the OP. While the MacBook and MBP are nice, Apple didn't do anything to the chassis to make them more appealing to me.

Loving my new MBA...
