GRRRRRRRRR

This crappy leopard and crappy laptop has been nothing but trouble ever since i got it back. My macbook was off getting repairs last week cos it was freezing and doing stupid stuff and the engineer couldnt find anything wrong with it. Got it back and installed Leopard, ever since then ive had nothing but trouble.

Leopard is BEAUTIFUL and so much better to use, but since upgrading my laptops been crashing like mad. Its had all its software update and still its doing it.

Tonight alone in the space of 30 mins ive had to do a force shut down at least 5 times.

It just completely freezes, no pointer movement, no keyboard input, nothing.

another thing is it keeps cutting my internet off, ive got one of those external dial up modems and its been crackling and not connecting sometimes, dunno if thats got anything to do with the crashing.

Any tips?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

If its a fresh install and they've checked it (apple) then I'd have to say you might be the unlucky one who got a Friday build! Out for the weekend soon. . .

Jokes aside, I feel your frustrations that is not much fun! My iMac did freeze only the other day when the screen saver was on and I was trying to get it back to use. Just froze on screen saver had to hard switch off!

Sorry dude I would try the apple support or store again.

call and ask to talk to a specialist
you have reinstalled the operating system and it is still giving you problems
kernal panics does pull up a flag that there may be something wrong with the hardware. I would use the same case number to make it show its an ongoing issue.

my God, that was the '90's! That could be 90% of your problem. Do you have "call waiting" as well? I can't even remember the codes to disable call-waiting, but that's something else to look into. Give some specs on your MacBook and did you purchase a special adapter in order to utilize your external dial-up modem?

you probably haven't met all the UPDATES required to operate Leo to its maximum capabilities.

How much memory do you have?

na, like booting it up, when the BONG goes sometimes it repeats it like 10 times then wont load anything, other times AFTER the bong when the apple logo appears and says its loading it wont load any further. Sometimes when moving windows about its like part of the window or picture in the finder freezes on part of the screen and gets stuck there. REALLY annoying stuff like this.

It was the base model from the previous gen, 2.0 80GB 1GB Ram. And its 100% up-to-date with its software updates.

Not looking forward to phoning apple, i was on the phone to them for an hour last time :(

I really don't know why, but my Macbook does that same thing sometimes on startup and restarts. I'll hear the startup tone like 6 or 7 times. Not every time, just sometimes, but obviously I'm not having the problems you are....

Sounds like bad RAM.

Now that you mention it, I believe you are 100% right. I just replaced all of my ram with upgrades and it hasn't happened since....

I think you need to do a disk check and some defrag on top of that......oh wait, you have a mac...hmmmm. :confused:well, I hope it works out for you. sorry to hear about the problem. I know I would not be happy either if it was my mac. Good luck.

Tip - you're doing something wrong if you're having that many problems...

I'm going to have to get on the RAM boat with this one. Try new RAM.

Going to have to agree with the bad ram assessment.
Most Likely Culprit.

I would open the case & re-seat the ram, as it may have vibrated slightly loose in the slot.
Worth a shot.

Does anyone use the Apple Hardware diagnostic? Boot up while holding the D button.

sounds like you have a hard-drive problem to me >.< but yea just send it back to apple if it keeps happening, and you may even get bumped up to a mbp if it keeps happening... :P

1 more vote for hardware problem. 1st guess is RAM. 2nd guess would be HDD.

its getting worse

last night and tonight its taken me about 9 or 10 attempts to get online, it just keeps freezing on me and making noises. Earlier just after switching it on i got the screen displaying the force shut down in multiple languages. While online its ok for about maybe 10 or 15 mins then randomly cuts me off. When i switched it on last time the num lock key and caps key began to flicker.

im away to go try some of your solutions, not too keen on playing around with RAM and stuff, dont want to muck it up even more and Apple turning around saying it was all my fault.

Gonna phone apple tomorrow

!!! NOT HAPPY !!!

take a break, you've been at this for quite awhile, you deserve a break! A few deep breaths and maybe a brisk walk about the neighborhood, (or to that Apple Store) even if it is a significantly long drive and a train ride.
