when external monitor connected on boot up, no image displayed. ????

so i use an external monitor.
i keep it connected pretty much all the time.
and now just recently when i start my mbp with it connected no image shows up on the external. it says its connected and i can move stuff there but still no image. disconnect reconnect and still same thing. it only works if i start it up without it connected then connect it once its booted (which is really annoying).


anything?
