They should have dropped Ultimate to $199, IMO.

Considering Microsoft has practically abandoned Windows Ultimate Extras, I personally don't see the point in even shipping Ultimate anymore.
Here's a thought: get rid of Vista Basic, make Ultimate the new Home Premium, keep Vista Business and call it a deal.

Sounds good. I'm very glad they're dropping the price of the OS.
I downloaded the developer's version of SP1 for Vista and I can totally tell the difference.
I actually like the look of Vista a lot. It's random spazzes, not so much....

I agree, Vista is very pretty. And the install my parents have is actually working pretty well.
Problem is, after a few minutes of trying to get stuff done it's very obvious that it's a MS OS. So un-intuitive and cumbersome to deal with.

Agreed. The reason I love Macs is because they just work. Mac OS X is very nice and it's definitely my favorite OS (and will always be, until OS XI) :p

Im suprised they're even lowering the price right now.... the EU just fined MS a pretty hefty sum. Link to Story (http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/02/27/eu-to-microsoft-not-open-enough-imposes-13-billion-fine/) Since reading about this ive been telling everyone I meet that there's no better time than now to buy Apple products :p

Agreed. That is why I won't buy Microsoft products, not because I think they're inferior, but because Microsoft drops support for some or all of the features with little or no notice! Better yet, they should just drop Basic and Home Premium, lower Ultimate to $129, drop "Ultimate" from the name and then keep Business around for...Businesses. :p

Or how about they just slash Vista period. That is what I would call a deal... ;) :D

Heck, make it free! Then I wouldn't have to download it from a torrent sit around thinking about how I can't afford it. :D
I'm kidding.

lol, they are slashing prices so they sell something this year... last year, vista was predicted to sell X versions, and the real thing was like 80% less than predictions XD
VISTA SUCKS...

I say MS should abandon Vista as a whole and hope that Windows 7 doesn't suck nearly as much... and get it on the shelves in less than 5 years (like it took for vista)

Sounds like a draft for a new Mac vs PC ad :)

VISTA SUCKS...
Perhaps you're right about the sales number, but vista looks pretty nice, I do like how it looks. And for the stability part, I think vista is a fine os, although sometimes its a pain. As for those of you who are Mac fanboys I think what i say here is pretty useless.
p/s: I do use OSX too

my fresh install of Vista lasted about 6 months before it crapped out and random processes started crashing

Every time I try to open that article, Safari crashes. Is my MPB jealous much?
