View Full Version : when you buy a computer isn't it supposed to come with the os cd as well?

i need a service pack 2 windows cd.
last windows machine i had only has a service pack 1 cd and the service pack 2 on a separate update cd.
my mom and sister both have windows computers.
and i am having no luck finding there cd's.
arent they supposed to come with one, because they have no clue and i have searched a lot.

A lot of pc's only come with recovery partitions now.

Why don't you just buy a legit copy? If their machine is old it most likely came with service pack 1 and they downloaded the update to service pack 2. I assume you are trying to install xp on your mac right....

Even if you found the discs, it wont allow the install or it will not activate once installed because you would be using OEM disks.
So you would need to purchase a license regardless. Might as well get the needed discs along with it.

That's the crappy thing about OEM licenses of Windows is that they are tied to the machine and not transferable.

i have my old disc and i remember installing it on a bunch of different comps, even making copies
