I just ordered a chair. It's sweet. What chairs do you guys use at your computers?

Here is a concern of mine regarding computer chairs:
Why in the world are they so damned expensive?!?!
It seems like there are really crappy cheap ones that you can buy for $40.00- and then you can't get any nice ones for less that $250.00.... Right now I'm using a pretty standard, moderately comfortable, orange rolly chair. I am content with it, but not happy with it. It works, and thats pretty much all I care about.

This one is $240 and it's the best one I could find for less than $1000. It's not technically a "computer chair", it's an "office chair", but what's the damn difference anyway?
It's also an "executive chair". I'll feel like a CEO, or at least an Evil Overlord (http://www.eviloverlord.com/), when it gets here ;)

It looks extremely comfortable. But, personally, I could never justify spending $240 on a chair ;).
I like to spend my money on more important things.... like porn. Just kidding ;). More important things like computers, I should say :D.

I do most of my work on an old green couch that my roommate brought from his house. Before being in our living room it was on his porch for about 2 years (indoor). About the most comfortable thing ever and great to pass out drunk on.

The only chair cooler than that, I think, would be a car seat, removed from the car.

Did it already. We had a big grey van seat in our dorm room last year. Actually, there were two and we gave the the others to our friends down the hall. They were actually quite comfortable as couches.

nice chair, and cheap in comparison to what's out there.

The Aeron chair is comfy, and very light. I can sit for a long time and be comfortable.
edit: remove picture of Aeron... see above :D

I considered the Aeron, but it's overpriced and has no leather.

Yeah, to buy it for yourself with your own money would be overkill for most people. For me, the best feature is the incredible lightness of the thing, something leather would have a difficult time replicating. I rotate in the chair quite a bit, and it is effortless with the Aeron. But it doesn't quite have the Evil Overlord effect, nor the club chair cocoon effect of a big leather chair.

I used to have an executive chair but I had to get rid of it when I moved to a room with carpeted floors :(
I can probably get one of those floormats, but it wouldnt matter since i dont have 300 for a highquality exec chair like i'd want :)

I usually sit on my bed with my PowerBook right next to me, because it's tethered down by the power, ethernet, usb, audio, firewire, and computer lock. It sometimes sits on my desk, and I'll use a standard wooden chair, or a foldable chair...
It's not the best for my back, but nothing in the dorms here is the best of anything...

Saving money is definitely good, but a highback chair is needed for maximum comfort and maximum Evil Overlord Effect.

right now i have a cheapie placeholder until i can get something moderately decent, my ideal chair is the Eames Managment Chair (http://www.dwr.com/productdetail.cfm?id=0447&fp=subc), unfortunately it's out of my price range for a couple of years. If you know Eames at all, you'll understand why it's worth the price. The chair is only worth about a thousand but the leather makes up the difference.

damn! well my parents got me a cheap chair a little while ago, because they didn't want to spend the moolah on an Aeron or a Mirra (which sorta looks like the Aeron-check out both at http://www.hermanmiller.com)
Okay so now the chair my parents got for me (prolly for like $50) is in pretty bad shape. So i'm promising myself that I'll get a new Aeron instead of getting an iPod as soon as this chair breaks :D

Stelliform, you can't mention "maximum evil overlord effect" and then show that office chair as an example!
This is what should be the goal--

That's a slightly different evil overlord than I was intending. I was thinking more about a Bond villain type of Evil Overlord.

aeron baby!
btw, you can get them for 599.00 here in l.a.
not cheap but well worth it.
and re: eames...i've been a big fan/collector of his vintage stuff for many years. have had his lounger, potato chip chairs, fiberglass eiffell tower chairs and even a rare infant fiberglass rocking chair that was made for a woman at his factory. all cool stuff. charles and ray eames were perhaps the coolest couple to ever live. ya got good taste paul.

Oh, I assure you it is... it's actually partially suspended on semiflexible tubes. there's a lot in that chair that you don't see. granted it's not as ergonomic as the Aeron or the Freedom chair, but then they aren't great looking, just functionally perfect. And yes i know the Aeron has been updated with a green/gray look, which is better...
3rdpath: i'd love to see a pic of that rocking chair if you have one, sounds very cool

My new chair.
That is a nice comfortable looking chair Wes. I am using a living room style chair that my wife's parent gave us. For my height it is not ergonomic.

alas, when i moved from dallas to lala many years ago i had to narrow my list of belongings down to what would fit in a 27 foot moving truck...the eames stuff, my beautiful heywood wakefield furniture and a slew of other mid-century items were sold off. i still get sad when i think about it...:(
and i have no pictures of the stuff...drag, drag, drag...

I have to agree with the Aeron chairs. My family has 4 of them now split between two houses. D A M * they are amazing.

Ekornes makes the most comfortable chairs I've ever seen. Go to www.ergotron.com for an armature mount for your Mac's CPU and monitor and you can chuck your desk!:D
