Help Needed!

I can't copy and paste or click and drag anything from my external HD, to my desktop. I am using Mac OS X 10.4.11. The format is Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

Woops! I lost power to my external HD from my Power Mac G5 and now when I try to click and drag something from it to my desk top I get a white circle with a line through it. Interestingly, if I drag it to the Terminal a green plus sign appears.

In Disk Utilities, Verify/Repair Disk Permissions is grayed out. Get Info. shows I can read and write and the volume is unlocked. I clicked "apply to enclosed items", but a pop-up said that the operation could not be completed because I do not have sufficient privileges for some items. Some items are programs so I don't know.

Verify/Repair Disk works but it says there are no problems. I can add files and change file names, delete, copy to the same drive, etc. If I send a file to the trash I can't drag it out to my desktop.

Thank God 500GB of info. is still not lost but....

Thanks for your help in advance,

David
