I have a hard time hearing things, even with my volume turned up, and the volume in iTunes maxed out....
Any 3rd party app to boost the sound? >_>

I'm thinking probably not, what might be an idea though is to either buy some headphones or a set of external speakers.

I wish there was an app.... VLC plays movies WAY louder than quicktime so it's obiously the software that dictates it...
if you find anything let me know.

audio hijack pro will let you boost your mac's audio output level the same way vlc does.

By the way, you can do the same thing in the quicktime player as you do in vlc. I forget how off hand, but I believe you go to the EQ window and turn up the pre amp slider.

How does audio hijack boost your system sound?

The only problem with these is that they probably drain your battery faster :p
What are you doing where you need to hear your computer though?

the speakers are pretty much the only disappointing thing about my MacBook. I wish they could go louder and have better fidelity, but oh well...
In iTunes, when you show the equalizer you bump the preamp up as well. It makes a noticeable difference. I had also downloaded a trial of some program off of apples website that did the same thing. Can't remember what its called though. It was an equalizer as well.
Its all about the headphones for me!

Ya, but is this on the go, or is this just in your house?
Because if it's on the go your best bet is headphones, and if you don't like that idea then use one of those sound boosters.
But if it's just at home then buy some external speakers.
Both headphones or external will sound much better than the in-laptop speakers, especially if you're going to be boosting the power to them, because they'll sound even worse.

Since nobody was helping out. Found this.
"The most popular solution for this is using Audio Hijack. Great app to have for a variety of things (e.g., recording streaming audio), but it's also perfect for what you need. It allows "hijacking" the audio output of an application and applying Audio Unit plugins or its own built-in EQ to the output.
So, step by step.
1. Launch Audio Hijack
2. Create a preset for whatever application you'll commonly want to make louder (i.e., itunes, vlc, mplayer, quicktime).
3. Open the EQ on that preset
4. Activate the EQ and move the gain/level up to desired volume
5. "Hijack" the application (but you don't need to hit record)"
http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/7316/picture1fe2.jpg
Then click Hijack^
and yes, you have to have Audio Hijack running for this to boost your system volume. Once you close it system volume goes back to normal.. but if you will need your system louder for a while it can run in the background unnoticed. You could also hide it in the dock and have it start automatically at start up i suppose if you want your volume boosted all the time, I suppose.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)
You can always buy the x-mini , its a small but really loud speaker which connects with 3.5mm jack. U can put it on iphone, mac, everything.

Yeah but if you boost your volume way up it may sound tinny. Why don't you just get some quality headphones and use them :) You'll get:
•Much richer and better quality sound.
•BASS!
•Less of a drain on your MacBook's battery.
