Problems with AT&T Aircard and 10.5

I am having stability problems with the aircard support in 10.5. I have a Sierra Wireless 875U and if I use the sierra watcher software it is stable but slower. Using the built in aircard support in leopard is faster but after a while it will not send out (watching the meter in syt prefs under network). Sometimes while manually disconnecting it will get stuck, and pulling the aircard out creates a kernal panic.

Any idea's on how to make this more stable?
