nice 'tar jef. You could start telling everyone you've got a G5 now!
Dukestreet's sig should say something like 'official avatar designer of macrumors' :p

So what made you cave in and put up the 'tar jef? Was it just the simple offer duke made?
I always thought that your lack of an avatar was like, a political statement, or something...:)

Hey...is that a Dockers 'tar you're wearing?

I was thinking more along the lines of
ninja avatarist for the AZC
I'll have to think about that one. And anyone else want something for an avatar, I'd be willing to give it a go. I'm getting rid of mine soon, so I'll put it up for sale if someone wants it.:D
Nice 'tar Jef, and good job Duke.
Hmmm, I may be in the market for a new or slightly used avatar if work stays slow for a while...

very nice to be seeing u with an avatar jef...
it was a bit "retro" feeling to see networkman back on the boards for a day... ;)

May 1, 2002, 10:55 PM
i went for the 'tar because of how cool dukestreet's avatars were...so i joined in and got one
while duke was working on it, i parused (is that a word?) the forums as networkman

So no political statement hunh? :(
jefhatfield
May 1, 2002, 11:20 PM
politically, i am a social liberal and/or liberal/moderate fiscally, which to many of you, is probably a boring statement
if i said i was a highly religious conservative billionaire with a huge gun collection and ten wives and i didn't believe in dancing, i might get a negative response
or if i said i was a bommb building marxist with ties to fidel castro and north korea, i might raise a few suspicions
but to say i have either voted for a democrat or republican and i often go to malls on the weekend is not something that will change the way we live in this country
and saying i use a mac will not raise any red flags on this forum...so much of what i say is preaching to the choir:D

Well, now I've got 2 G5 avatars out there and I might have to change them soon if this whole thing with the POWER4 comes to pass. Who knows, it might be a totally different chip based or the POWER4 and they'll call it the POWER5 to keep in line with Apples CPU numbering scheme.
Actually if they change the pro processor line, they should just go with a different scheme altogether.
If I can get it done soon enough my next one will have nothing to do with Apple. SPG, you're the first one to express intrest in a 'used' Avatar, only one owner. I'd be able to modify it if you want, change the words to something else, alter the Lightwave logo on the sphere and of course change the colors.
Let me know if you're interested.
And thanks for all the compliments, guys!:D
Thanks Duke, I really do think that you and rower are becoming the avatar meisters, but if I actually make it to 500 I think I'll be able to come up with something here.

tortuga flats was in aransas pass (right 'cross the ferry) excellent food . i was last thru that way at least 10 years ago-i drove to cali in feb '93....still have an aransas pass beach parking sticker on my windshield. used to go to the beach at least 4 times a year. sometimes down to nuevo laredo then up the coast to beaumont where i had family.
many a fun road trip thru there. nothing like texas beaches (with jellyfish and tar....)oh, and the women. texas has the prettiest girls in the world though i did find a beautiful native ( read: non-enhanced...)californian to tie the knot with.
enjoy your podunk town-you'll miss it if you leave:)

I actually tried making it spin, but its not centered correctly so it'll take a bit of work. Maybe later I do it for you.

When I looked at it, I thought it would be a piece of cake. I was wrong, and it really frustrated me. Instead of taking 10 min or less - it really should have been simple, it was more like 30 minutes of annoying crap. Oh well. It probably would work better using an illustrator path and making it 100x100 or more then reducing it down.
Anyway, here's what I ended up with, do what you like with it, I'll email you a copy incase you don't see this thread.

you da man duke. thats tight. i see what you are saying about the symetric problem. im fine with that though. im sorry it frustrated you for 30 minutes.
thanks man.
so what software are you using exactly to do that? and can you give us a basic idea of how you run through and do that?

My question exactly. I'm very interested on how you do that. I have here Imageready 2 from Adobe (came with photoshop 5.5) But can't seem to get any quick results (should read the help files, but haven't found the time yet)
I know it should be doing Gifs, only like to know if there are any user friendly-er apps. (one where you put your image on a new file, the app asks how you want your image, and it automatically renders :D )

I can't speak for duke, but I did mine in ImageReady.
I've been using ImageReady 3/7 which has much better tools for creating animated gifs.
Mr. Anderson
May 3, 2002, 01:27 PM
I've been using image ready and I'll post a short tutorial later to give you all the low down on how easy it really is. Well, it should be. I've been playing around with photoshop since 2.5, I have a good bit of experience and that helps in getting it done fast. So stay tuned and I'll post a new thread later tonight or tomorrow.

Someone needs to make eyelikeart's eye blink for him. That would be sweet.
Is there some resource I can go to to look at avatars or figure out how to make one. I think I'll want one whenever I get >500 posts, but being a non-techie, I have no clue yet how to make one.

When you edit a post, you can't add a file... :(
Rower_CPU
May 3, 2002, 02:40 PM
Any 50 pixel by 50 pixel gif or jpeg can be used as an avatar. All you need is an image editing app to resize an image you like, or create your own, and save it as one of those two formats.

I think if you resized that image, Homer would be too small to make out. Funny ass image, though. :D

eyelikeart need a better eye, I think. Its very 90s retro - non antialiased. But thats my opinion.
mcrain, just get a bust of Homer and have the Doh! go across the screen - or any suitable one liner from the Simpsons. That would be hysterical. I have to agree that if you took that image you posted, Homer would basically dissapear. I went and threw it into Image Ready and did a little playing around and this is what I got. You might be able to do better if you crop the bottom part off.

Wow dudestreet. That was some fast work you did there. I thought the image was funny, but not really "me," if you know what I mean. I need to find something that fits... maybe the scales of justice tilting back and forth... I don't know.
I'll just have to keep my eyes open to find something.
I agree about eyelikeart's eye. It does look old school, but then again, it may have some significance. If so, making it blink would make it more interesting.
So the size I need to look for is about an inch by an inch (50 by 50?) OK... I'll look around.

It took all of two minutes, and that includes applying an unsharp filter to make it look better at the 50x50 res.
And DON'T limit yourself to finding 50x50, you can always resize it. If you want I'll do it for you, you just find the image. As you see, it doesn't take me that long. And I'll look around for some a 3D model of scales, that could be fun.:D
