View Full Version : Mac Pro (early 2008) shuts down when asleep...any idea why?

I've got a new mac pro which I love apart from one thing...

Sometimes when I put it to sleep and go away for a while, I come back and press the space bar to wake it up and it starts up...not wakes up...but starts up.

Its weird, because it's seems to have not fully shut down because pressing the space bar does not normally start a computer that is off, but that is what is happening here.

I am sure that this only started happening a couple of weeks ago or so after an update (don't know which one unfortunately).

Can anyone help?

Dual 2.8, 10.5.2, 10GB Ram, 8800GT.

Looks like you can still boot a Mac from the keyboard, after all... :D

That's seriously weird. Apple Store it; see what they have to say. Don't let them DO anything unless they can explain to you what's going on. Then leave and come here and tell us what they said and we can help you fix it.

'S how it usually goes. ;)

It's a known problem and fairly common... see other threads for possible solutions, but the resetting PRAM and PMU trick doesn't work for everyone:

I'm having problems my MP WON'T go to sleep! It only shuts down the screen but the case fan still works - never goes off. Is that unusual?
