I just got my first ever MBP and I am wondering if there is anyway I can confirm that I got a glossy screen? is the system preferences or anything?

anyway to check if i have a glossy display?

It should be pretty easy to tell.
With the display turned off can you easily see yourself in it like looking at a rather dark mirror, or does the surface look a little more "textured" in that things look hazy and more difficult to make out?

more practical way of testing.
place a lamp/lampshade infront of your screen.
if you can see it from your computer in other words " mirror" effect
then it's a glossy.
if there's no reflection at all..you got the better screen " MATTE"

i got a matte screen and with it off you really can't see anything sharp and pretty much no reflections with the screen on. any reflection is blurred on a matte, versus a sharp image on a glossy.

yea, the slight clarity glossy provides is outweighed by the damn reflections. i haven't seen the MBP glossy in person, but i've seen a number of high end laptops with glossy and they definitely work as unintentional mirrors. i think people get wooed by glossy too easily, like fancy glossy icons apple is famous for, but in reality after the initial wow it's just not practical.

i agree with the "wowS" from the glossy..
but put the glossy and matte side by side.
test them on extreme sunlight
on daylight
or on your regular room
then decide which one you really want

I have a new macbook pro with glossy screen and I love it! I prefer crisp reflections to hazy ones. The sheen on the matte screen drives me crazy. I never know exactly where the reflection starts and finishes, but with the glossy you can always tell. At that point all you have to do is move your screen a bit and it's all good.
