ÊYet that moral punctiliousness is curiously selective. Last year the Bush administration, in return for a military base in Uzbekistan, gave $500 million to a government that, according to the State Department, uses torture "as a routine investigation technique," and whose president has killed opponents with boiling water. The moral clarity police were notably quiet.

All sounds rather familiar. Just like Americas previous support for Saddam and the Taliban.

Any bets on how many years before this "friend of America" becomes officially evil.

Can some of the more morally bankrupt on this board explain why this behavior is ok?

Sorry, I think I have a few bucks left in my morality account, but it is just another example of how human rights violations are only important to this administration when they coincide with geopolitical ambitions.

Maybe the plan is to prop up dictatorships and give them weapons so we can later justifiably invade them. or so it seems.
