ordered mines thru an interest free 2 year apple business lease, so it takes an extra week or so to do paperwork...shipping date now 26th march, 4 weeks after initial order..

the bummer for me was that i also ordered a 24" imac, a 1TB time capsule and a 23" ACD, but because its a lease they all have to ship together :(

no, you pay 4 payments per year (every quarter), then after 2 years to buy the equipment from GE Capital Finance for 2% of the original value.

for instance, i bought my powerbook amongst other bits and at the end of the lease i paid £42.50 to keep it....

the alternative is you keep the lease payments going and get an upgrade or anything else you like...

benefits : you always have a sorted up to date machine every 2 years.
cons : its never yours.......but who cares if your getting a shiny new one anyway??

Ordered mine on the same day as you, in the U.S. still "not yet shipped". It looks like the European orders are shipping much faster than the U.S orders.

Hey mine was on the same plane from China all the way to Memphis! Came into Austin at 7:26pm on Sat. Here's to getting our MacBook Pros on Monday.

I ordered mine on the 27Feb. It is even built yet. It won't even ship until the 19th March. And it will take until the 29th to reach my parents. I'm sure Apple have invented some special type of space travel, as everything I order from them seems to arrive via Venus.

The worst part is waiting for the email saying they have shipped it. Currently the bank is saying the authorisation has been cancelled by them as Apple have not collected the funds authorised after 5 days. Apple claims everything is okay and the machine is being built. On the 19th, they will attempt to get payment. This is where I will receive an email saying it was shipped, or the order has been cancelled and some lucky person is going to be getting a 17" 2.6Ghz Hi-Def Glossy maxed out for a considerable discount on the refurb store.

I've phoned the bank, and they can't even tell me if the money will be allowed to be moved to Apples account. I've phoned Apple and they are adamant that the funds should be moved. I'm 100% confident that neither company knows what is going on and are just hoping for the best. When this occurs you realise just how crap internet shopping is.

i have the same situation and i looked at my online credit card info and don't see a pending auth for the correct amount. are you worried that they won't try to charge again when they are ready to ship? is this something i should be worried about?

Mine is maxed out, costing around $3700 (with Applecare and some programs preinstalled) and yesterday I received an e-mail saying there was a problem with Apple trying to bill from my debit card. There's a $3000 daily limit on my debit card and anymore requires a phone authorization from the bank, where they would temporarily increase the limit. It's finally charged... somewhat... My bank says it's pending.

I ordered mine on the 26th around 10:30am PST and it still hasn't moved. The expected ship date is the 18th, delivery on the 21st. My second option was a maxed out Sony Vaio AR series. Coincidently, a maxed out version of that would ship on the 18th as well. Maybe there's a shortage of 17" hi-res LED-backlit screens.

I am! But the issue boils down to the fact that the Hi-Res Mattes still take 7-10 business days... plus shipping... I'm guessing it won't come much earlier than the glossy... :/

I think I read somewhere in the forums that if you change from glossy to matte, the wait starts all over again. But then again, you'd probably it the matte before the glossy starts to ship anytime soon. At least people already have mattes, so you know they have them and they have shipped, as opposed to the glossy which I don't think anyone has, except for Steve Jobs.

OK! I changed the order!
From the initial April 2 shipping/April 8 delivery I'm down to March 21-26 shipping/March 25-31 delivery! They upgraded me to 2-3 day shipping (free) and I chose not to add the pre-installed iWork '08! (I'll get it later)

I'm hoping for the shorter end of things, I really am! But even if it comes on the 31st it's over a week earlier than the glossy... and besides I'm starting to lean over Matte instead of Glossy (this boils down to a matter of taste!).

While we wait, I highly recommend you guys reading Shawn Blanc's review of the new MBPs (http://shawnblanc.net/2008/review-macbook-pro/)... He's really good at reviewing! ;)

johnellisdm. I'm worried what has happened. Apple will try and take the funds on the 19th. I will still be in the country when that happens. If they don't ship until say the 22nd, I'm screwed. I'm now one of those people. After playing around with both types the other day I decided that the matte was the way to go for me so I cancelled my glossy order. Not that I really have anything against the glossy as they are beautiful screens, but the bright mattes were really easy and appeasing to my eyes. Just personal preference thats all. In the process of changing my order over the phone with apple support, they refunded me my shipping charge and threw in an apple remote. I should also get it sooner than if I would have waited. My order date for the glossy was march 1st. My new order for the matte was march 12th and I should be getting it sooner.

I certainly hope that cancelling my order helps bump somebody up because the expected wait is just too long. I should have looked before buying or else I'd have mine by now. Thats my mistake though and I'm glad I was able to make the change without too big of a hassle. Two thumbs up for apple call support by the way.

I'm with you! When Apple sent me a mail saying my shipment was delayed til April 2nd I immediately changed my order to a matte! Not sure about the decision of changing the order as I see other getting they're glossys ahead of time, but I'm positive about the change to matte...

Related to that, I called Apple today complaining about all the delays and yadayada and got a free backpack (they're gonna credit me the backpack I ordered with the laptop and already have with me = $99.95: http://urltea.com/2xnf)

Question: My CC company called me this afternoon asking for verification on a couple large $$ purchases requested by Apple online. I asked if the request was for 'charges' or a 'hold'......he confirmed it was charges and went ahead with the approval. I thought our CC wasn't charged until product was being shipped? Wonder if this is something to get excited about.... especially since my Expected Ship Date isn't until March 26. I did just check my order status and it still says 'Not Yet Shipped'.

Well I finally got a tracking number on Friday night! :D

Was really hoping it'd arrive at my local depot today. Rang up TNT and although helpful got a different story from different people. Did get the number of the local depot from one of their folks though, called them up - CLOSED :( but found an option on the automated line and managed to speak to someone at the depot! He checked the system - not yet arrived.. :o Probably just sees what we see on their tracking website I bet.

SO it's due to arrive Monday. Getting it dropped off with my neighbour, so hope he doesn't go out on Monday lol :p

AMAZING PART2:
After shipping last Friday it arrived today, early morning.. MONDAY! The Fedex tracking said Wednesday 10:30am, but this morning it was already in town and by 9am I had it on my hands!!
Typing this on it, after wast.. spending most of my day installing apps and moving preferences (my old system was PowerPC.. won't risk Migration Wizard..)

Kudos to Apple... Since the change of my order last Tuesday to the arrival of the product only 4 business days went by... amazing! Really!

ok... got it this afternoon... setting stuff up... man... this LED display is super bright. i have to keep it turned almost halfway down. i think i'll have no trouble working outside with this thing even though it is glossy.

it is a little annoying how the brightness changes so quickly as my hand moves over the right speaker (must be where the photo sensor is). i'm sure if i search a bit, i'll find a setting to disable that.

haven't really gotten a chance to set it all up and i don't want to install the extra ram until i'm sure i won't have to send it back for some reason, so i haven't really had a chance to test out what it is capable of.

i'm moving from a 2.33 mbp with 3gb and a 5400 HD, so i'm not expecting a huge difference... i really just had a unique opportunity to upgrade, so i did.

Posting this from my new Macbook Pro, moving all my raw home video files that I need to edit over from my old Windows-based external drive (about 500GB worth, got a nice 1GB FW800 drive to go with the new one). I echo the previous post about the ambient light sensor, every time I move my hand up to the delete key my display dims a bit, I'll either have to get used to that or figure out how to disable it. So far, I love it. Very snappy, a whole lot more responsive than my Inspiron 1720. It's funny, the 1720 isn't off too much spec-wise from the MBP, but man, it's a night and day difference between the two.
So, just moving files over tonight really. Got to go through the iTunes move and still keep all the playlists/rankings/play counts. Gonna be a long night of file transfers...

One Question to you geeks: why you all choose to order 2GB RAM? At my point of view this is to loosy? Or do you upgrade this by yourself? — this may cause problems with the Apple Care doesn't it?

Interesting, we just got in glossy high-res 17", but they don't look that glossy to me either...

But compared to the late 2006 17"s, the colors are beautiful.

I received my 17" hi-res glossy last week, it is in fact glossy. There's no doubt about it. I could use it as a mirror when turned off.

If yours isn't that glossy, you should call Apple.

Comparing them side-by-side with a 17" matte LCD, the difference is definitely noticable when there's a light source behind you. Otherwise, doesn't seem as drastic as say the glossiness of a MacBook display.

Although the new LED displays are definitely brighter and more colorful, but then again they're also new.

It has taken over a month for delivery, ordered it on the 27th of Feb. I have been told it shipped on Monday and they are hoping it will arrive in the store tomorrow? Can not wait to get my hands on and retire my loyal iBookG4. It has been around Australia 10 or so times in the past 3yrs and apart from a HD failure it has been a trooper!

My order was shipped on 22th of Mar and I can't still find any further information. There are several threads in forums how to track the packages — but none worked for me.

I ordered the 17" HR GL and an Apple Care Protection Plan plus an sleeve. My status has‘nt change since 22. Mar. Apples tracking says "Merge in Transit NL" — that means the sleeve and the ACP are waiting in Amsterdam for the incoming of my MBP.

Strange delivery dates are shown for this packages:
The ACP + the sleeve should be delivered till 1st of April
The MBP should be delivered till 11th of April

But why they are waiting for MERGE? The 11th of April is exactly the date that was shown as I ordered the whole package. Does this all mean, that I can forget the 11th and wait for the 1st? — i am getting mad!

On Saturday (29th Mar) my apple-tracking says: "UPS". And when I track UPS says "Billing information recieved" … but nothing happens. This lasts now 3 days! Delivery should be tomorrow… (1st Apr) but if they don‘t hurry up I won't see this wonderful thing in my sweaty hands tomorrow. I rung AppleStoreGermany on the last Saturday they said it should be delivered tomorrow…

I jumped the gun slightly last week. having shipped on Monday I was pretty sure it was going arrive by the end of the week.
But alas I had to wait the weekend to the next Monday. Even though it was frustrating having to wait 31 days for it to arrive I must say it's been worth it. Just Love the glossy HiRes screen and it so damn fast! Especially compared to my old iBook G4.

What a Fantastic Unit!!
