I have a fairly new MyBook 500gb HD. I was about to partition her, and I wanted to know if I could create one partition for the mac (Journaled) and another partition that would be say FAT32? Is that something that would cause flames, or can I really do that. I see the options on Disk Util, but I would rather not ruin a good HD.

Sure, you can do that. Just launch Disk Utility and select the drive (not the vollume). Choose the Partition tab and choose two partitions and size as you like. Click on the "Mac" one and click Options and set it for GUID if you plan to boot from this drive using an Intel-based Mac. Then choose the other partition, click Options and choose the PC boot record, then format it as FAT32 from the pull-down.
