View Full Version : Jedi or Neo

I'm such geek:rolleyes:

Would you be a Jedi or would like to have the powers Neo has? The only cool thing the Jedi has are the light saber but Neo has Trinity instead.

Then, in a time line Neo became all that in less than a week, I mean, how long is really taking from the time Morpheus talked to Neo the first time intil now? And Joda is 3000 years old and he can not do half of the things Neo is doing.

To be a Jedy is not as cool as it was before The Matrix. I wonder what kind of hero we will have in the next 10 years that overcome Neo.

Well, I'd take the jedi option myself. To have Neo powers would mean that the Matrix actually existed - that would not be a good thing - cause what would you do when you're out of the Matrix.....

Jedi Mind Trick? Yeah, tell me that wouldn't be good.

You'd have the ultimate pick up line at a bar - works everytime ;)

well i can say i'd rather be Neo. personally i'd rather have my own Trinity than a glowing rod. :p :D

i was going to say you'd actually have to be in the Matrix to have Neo's powers, Mr Anderson beat me to it.

if Neo's powers were in the real world, that would be good. actually, that's kind of unclear at the moment... but all will be revealed soon...;)

and no one really knows what sort of powers a jedi can have, do they? couldn't you just keep training and getting stronger? and then if you were an evil jedi...;) :D

so he could control the circuitry - he still knocked himself out. Not a good thing if there's more than one....

If you could have Neo like powers without the matrix, that would be different. But I'm still going with my original preference and assuming that Neo powers come with a Matrix.

Knowing the future, telekenisis, lightning from you fingertips. Not necessarily flying, but you could jump out of a plane without a parachute and survive.....lift a bus with the force. You could do a lot - and if you had a light saber? Damn, who wouldn't want a light saber ;)

Yeah, but you'd have all of that buddhist discipline crap in the way, by the time you got the skills they wouldn't be fun anymore. For Neo, all you have to have is some moody black woman with bad hair to tell you cryptic things you can ignore, for the most part. much more relaxed.

with great power comes great responsibility ;)

And you could always go to the darkside....with Neo you end up waking up in the real world and it sucks. Living underground, hiding from squids, etc. Putting yourself in harms way just to get power - having to rely on your crewmates to keep you safe while you're playing in the matrix.

Jedi. No question about it. Being able to throw things around, jump, run. Mind trick. Choking someone with my mind. Too cool.

Of course, I fell asleep during The Matrix, so I don't really know what Neo can do. "I know jung-fu," that's all i'm familiar with.

Jedi no doubt about it. With Neo he's only a superhero in the Matrix, once that is destroyed no more fun and games. Just a dismal underground existance will be all thats left. As for him stopping that sentinal...maybe it was running Windows and performed an 'illegal operation' at that critical moment ;) we all know that could happen! :D

I'd take Jedi. The true Jedi have a mental serenity that Neo just doesn't. Neo flies around whereas while Yoda could move fast, he finds that shuffling along is good enough for him. That's the kind of low-key wisdom that I'm looking for.

I'd have to choose Jedi myself. I'd just dress like Neo (shades, cool jacket, army boots, web gear full of guns....) ;)

<Cutie> (Blankly responds) "I want to go home to your place"

They leave togheter ,Mr. Anderson with a big smile on his face..."Ah the power of the darkside!"

One other thing - Jedi's don't need to be plugged in, they have powers everywhere, in the city, in the woods, underwater, etc. Big point. And if you're a jedi and have a lightsaber, you can stop bullets.

I take the unwritten 3rd option... Being a Changling. Ok aside from the genocide that they have been engaged in, a changling can do everything Neo can do (except they turn to gell, instead of stopping bullets), plus they are nearly indestructable. They also have the ability to chang into almost anything. Including birds (to fly), walls (to hide), and nearly anything also imaginable.

Honestly though, i'd rather be a jeda, at least as a jedi you are free, trying to save otheres, and can move thing with your mind.

i've thought about this sort of thing before...except instead of neo i put in gandalf....

this is assuming that you'd still live in the world that these characters live in and have all there powers...

Definitely Neo. What I couldn't understand about Yoda in the last SW film was he had to be assisted by use of a cane and walked like a decrepid old alien yet when he fought, he was a spinning little Blanka ball. That little fake!:D

Ah, but the big question is who would win if a Neo and a Jedi met for combat?

Outside the Matrix there's no question - Jedi.

Inside it would be Neo, but a Jedi's power would also make him formidable in the Matrix as well.

I'm still sticking with Jedi......

But Jedi's looks like crap, dreses like crap, do you remember what Joda eat? As a Jedi you can not have sex because the entire galaxy fall appart.

Neo is cool, he is in troubles now but that won't take an eternity, just 3 episodes not 6!!!

And besides, you have 3000 Jadys and they can not fix the galaxy while Neo and some other humans are doing everything just fine.

I know Neo can not use his powers (yet) outside the matrix but I rather that than no sex at all for my entire life!!!

And if that wasn't enough, Jedi's can not fly, they can hardly jump! Neo can fly and very fast.

can neo make out with his sister? that may be a jedi trait that doesn't carry over to the matrix world. lest we forget, that if a chosen one "or a neo" were to be in real danger, he could call the operator to exit the matrix via phone booth. then get nice and warm by the earths core while everyone danced and got jiggy in xion... or zion.

lets not just think about neo or jedi. but of their worlds. would you rather be partying in zion or partying with uncle and auntie in tatooine? personally, although its deep underground, i'll always consider earth my home. and we still have better looking women then any jedi temptress or blue skinned-tentacle headed vixen. and of course, if your a jedi you can't give in to temptation. no senator amidala, or woman in red dress - noone!

i don't think we've seen neos unleashed powers just yet. he may be able to bend and move a building to the way he sees fit. no lightsaber could block that. he may even be able to download an acting program;)

Y'know, what with the probable provenance of Mr. A's username, that's just a funny statement somehow. :)

Whether or not I'd have to exist in the worlds inhabited by the characters in question to get their respective powers, I'd choose Neo. There's a denial of emotion implicit in the Jedi teachings that I don't like or trust. Philisophically, I'd rather be winning precisely because of all the inconsistent frailties of the human experience, rather than by renouncing them.

And as a bonus, you might also get Neo's mad programming skills. Geek that I am, actually having an aptitude and liking for hard-core coding is more attractive to me than a Jedi mind trick scenario. Overriding someone else's freedom of will is, to me, one of the most henious crimes you could commit against another. Dark side, indeed!

Plus, Neo dresses better. No contest! :D

morpheus had a samurai sword that could slice through a cadillac escalade! i'm sure that deserves some props.

even though the jedi are very good swordsman, consider that they are repelling shots from a blaster, and not a handgun, semi, or automatic. in star trek, they considered a revolver a much more deadlier weapon than a phaser. if a jedi repelled some shots of an AK, i'm sure there would be small expolosions around the slashing area. and maybe even shrapnel.

when neos friends die, they perish. unfortunately for the jedi - their companions haunt them well into the afterlife. the last thing i want to see when i wake up is an 800 year old troll over my bed giving me advice.

But when a blaster hits something it does even more damage than a bullet.....I think its a moot point here. Neo stops a bullet, Jedis know where not to be and avoid them.

For me the biggest thing is not necessarily the powers each has, but where they work. If I was going to be plugged into the Matrix, I'd probably want to be Neo - but given this context, I'd much rather be walking around today with Jedi powers....;)

If you could have Neo powers without the Matrix, well, that might change things. But from mymemory's comments it seems that you'd have the have the Matrix to be a Neo. So I'm still sticking with jedi.

Talking about this to a friend of mine - his response to the question:

Jedi. No hesitation. Aside from my natural predisposition toward all
things Star Wars, I'd rather have powers that are rooted in this world, as
opposed to powers that subvert and distort the world I live in. It would be
too disorienting and lonely to think that my powers are just a manifestation
of the fact that reality is a lie and a sham. I'd rather have powers that
accentuate the real nature of the universe which is around me. Plus,
although Neo has greater power than most Jedi have (and I say most, because
who knows what power over life, death, and the afterworld the "disappearing
Jedi" like Obi Wan and Yoda have), I think that Neo's powers come at a
karmic price. He's a near-god, and gods are sacrificed.

Easy question.

good point. an interesting thing about the jedi universe is that you can have a drink with a green antanaed blob, and suddenly two jedi knights will pull out their sabers and interrogate a suspect. "there's nothing to see here..." they say.

in the matrix its different. if you catch a guy doing a backflip off the train tracks into the subway tunnel you or someone near you may morph into an agent to try to catch him! its not a pleasant way of life, having to hide in obscurity. but it is his reality. which is probably why you don't see neo enforcing the law in any of the local pubs around us.

i think the jedi prowess is a bit watered down in that land also. soo many exotic species and technology. who cares if a guy can move a rock with his mind when there is a guy who walks on his fists, and a large bug like creature who talks like a stereotyped italian dealer flying with little wings!

lets talk about medicinal purposes too. neo can pull a bullet out of someones chest and repair the wound before it becomes fatal. anikan couldn't save his mother from the sand peoples torture. and she wasn't as beaten up as trinity.

Just to line it out for you:

Neo

Powers: Can rewrite the code of the Matrix at his will, changing anything he wants. Can fly or use telekinesis. Sees the Matrix code when he is in the Matrix instead of the illusory reality.
Companions: Trinity and Morpheus.
Annoyances: The kid that keeps pestering him in Zion.
Seer: The Oracle.
Enemies: Smith. The Merovingian and his henchmen. Agents.

Jedi (Luke Skywalker)

Powers: Telekinesis. Jedi Mind Trick. 1337 Lightsaber Skillz.
Companions: Han and Leia.
Annoyances: None.
Seer: Yoda, Obi-Wan
Enemies: The entire Dark Side of the Force.

about healing people... a jedi is supposed be able to heal with Force. Anakin didn't because he doesn't know how to yet. he's just an apprentice kid remember.? (play JK2 and you can use Heal Force) :D

in Revolutions, Neo has his power OUTSIDE of the matrix. he destroyed thousands of Sentinels by puttin up his hand...he didn't pass out either. :D

but becoming a Jedi would be cool. i think if they know what they're doing, a Jedi can do anything they want. including all of Neo's tricks. exept maybe flying at Mach 2. but who knows. if anybody here is a trekkie. i wanna be a Q. :D

what about training?

Jedi take years, even decades, to master their craft. Neo just sits in a chair, gets a freaky needle thing jabbed into his brain stem and gets information fed into his head like gasoline to a car.

The entire Star Wars trilogy became a mess because a Jedi had sex with a girl. If Amidala wouldn't touch Anakin nothing would happen, that was the Apple Eva gave to Adam that destroy the paradise. That is what I mean about messing up the galaxy.

On the other hand Neo is saving the world because of his love for Trinity.

About the acting capabilities, none of the actors of the Episode 1 or 2 were believable. Mayyyyyyyyyybe Amidala but Obi Wan and specially Anaking were really cheap performances. Neo is ok, hes acting is the same in every movie.

and about Jedis destroying the universere... i don't think it was Amidala's fault. didn't Anakin go bezerk when those desert folk killed kidnapped and killed his mother? that was when he gave into his rage and was the beginning of his journey to the dark side.

Anakin said he would do whatever it takes, and that one day he would be the most powerful Jedi.

I think Neo is more powerful within the Matrix than the Jedi are, but he hasn't shown it yet, unless you count leaping into Agent Smith and making him explode.
