Should I reinstall OS X when i get my new macbook?

Getting a new MB on monday, being shipped today. I know there are other posts asking this question but i cant seem to find them anymore.

I've heard that if you reinstall, and unselect the printer drivers and extra languages, and some of the iLife apps that you can save LOTS of space on your hard drive.

Is it worth doing? Going to be running Logic Studio on it so it needs to stay relatively clean, however it is 4gb and 2.4GHz...

I would, gets rid of the few trial apps they put on, and as you say you can deselect a lot of nonsense you will never need (languages and drivers mainly).

is it simply insert the install disk and boot from install disk???
 
Yup, just pop the disk in and either run setup from it, or put the disc in and reboot holding down the C key on your keyboard.
 
If the installer does not detect an existing version of Mac OS X on your hard disk, or if you click Options on the "Select a Destination" window, an installation sheet will appear asking you to choose between Install Mac OS X, Archive and Install, or Erase and Install. Select a method, then click OK to continue.

Sould i just Install Mac OS X or Erase and Install???
 
cheers man. Apple wont have thrown in any useful software that i should know about before i do it will they???
 
Nope, everything useful you'll get back. They normally stick an MS Office trial on there, but if you want that you can download it from MS anyway.
 
thanks for that post mate. kinda useful except my mac is new.

edesign - i'm going to be installing Office anyway. One other question, is there any way during the install of choosing which of the iLife aps you can install. I have no need for GarageBand as will have Logic. Also wont need iWeb as i use Adobe CS3
 
I can't remember if OS X installs from OS X shipped with Macs (as opposed to retail) has iLife as part of the OS X install or if it's just on the 2nd Applications disc. Either way you will be able to customise the install and only install what you choose.

You can pick which applications in iLife you install through the customise option of the OS X install from the restore disks.
