Mail - message text too small

Hi

for some reason the font is too small in the messages my wife receives. It looks like 8pts - the same size as the message thread that follows.

any idea why this might be happening?

I don't see this in my Mail.

We are both using Leopard 10.5.2
 
The text size is either set smaller in her Mail (use command-+ to increase it) or the person sending the message made it that small.
