You could try what I'm trying with my parents. 😎

My mom's uber-crazy about her photos and music, and my dad's a treasurer. I'm trying to push the idea of Time Machine and Time Capsule into them... family license, ya know? 😎

I used that idea to get an external hard drive. 😉

I made a video, Pages Document about it.

But he still won't buy it, because he said it's too expensive (because of have to get family pack & new scanner)

P.S If one of you want to get it for me 😛😛 I'll P.M you my adress

Thanks

You got one of the 'new' machines. Leopard 'should' run faster. I think the intel is 64bit?

Well anyway. After i upgraded to leopard, initially i thought it was slower but as i carried on using it, i believe ('think') its faster/more responsive. Quicklook and some other features it has, will make it easier for you to be more productive. Well your dad 🙂.

Also if you are a student, im guessing you can get a discount? Not sure, can someone confirm this? I'm at university so i can get a discount, but im pretty sure they have discounts for high school etc..

Good luck. 🙂

I'm in Year 9, but only staff can get discounts in years K-12 🙁🙁

Hi,

Can you please convince my dad to get Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" for me.

Thanks
Not knowing why your dad doesn't want 10.5, or what your family uses a Mac for, it's hard to speak to why he should upgrade. But if you search for the reviews, like on MacWorld, ArsTechnica, and perhaps by Andy Ihnatko, you'll find some good info.

Some reasons not to upgrade are:
* You can't afford the $199 for a family pack (for a family with kids in school, there are a lot of things to spend $199 on and OS X 10.5 may be very far down the list of priorities.)
* You use Photoshop and aren't ready to pay $500+ to upgrade to CS3 with Leopard
* You're running older machines that may suffer from a newer OS -- or you don't also want to spend the money to upgrade the RAM on machines when getting 10.5
* You have to upgrade other hardware, like a scanner, as well 🙂

Some reasons to upgrade:
* It's better than 10.4 in every way that matters
* TimeMachine -- especially useful with a family, making sure one person doesn't accidentally delete another's files
* iLife 08 (especially iPhoto 08, big improvement over 06.)

Don't know about that. My 13 YO (12 at the time) son spent the summer mowing lawns and doing odd jubs. He made enough money to buy himself a boat. The boat cost more than a Leopard upgrade...

The laws here in Australia are different to the USA (IIRC It's 15 years)

Tried the reviews trick, didn't work.

Also couldn't we use Image Capture for importing Scanner Scans ?

EDIT: He doesn't have an iPod 🙂

EDIT2: The Machines are:

2X eMac G4 1.25 Ghz 1GB (2005 Model)
1X iMac G5 2.00 Ghz 1.5GB (Ambient Light Sensor)
1X Macbook Intel Core2Duo 2.00 Ghz 2.5GB (Mid-2007 Refurbished)

EDIT3: I already have iLife/iWork 08

I say get a new scanner and forget Leopard. There really isn't any big reason that you need to upgrade. I know the need to want to upgrade, but you aren't really missing out on anything. I'd say bug for more RAM or another HDD.

The Anonymous Macrumors member has posted Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" to me (he's in the USA...) it will take approx. 2-7 days to reach me here in Australia

😀😀:apple:
