I was just watching a film (via nfs) on VLC. The film finished, so I leave fullscreen mode to find my computer going super slow. the top taskbar was missing, (only the task icons visible). activity monitor wouldn't open. terminal "top" showed no process with heavy cpu usage, said 192mb of 2gb free. desktop was empty of icons.

restarting finder only fixed half the problems. the whole system was still unstable. And, unfortunately, killing windowserver does no good if there is no way of starting it back up.

ill post any other logs needed. just tell me which.

can someone decipher that? Is it like in linux that the ram ran out, so then it goes on a killing spree to free memory? I guess I could of looked at 'top' too late, when it already began freeing memory.
 
It could be that windowserver has a problem, but it looks like you are running out of RAM. Is this problem reproducible? Does it only happen when you use NFS? Only with VLC? Only VLC+NFS? Or perhaps you only notice it after a long movie VLC+NFS.

It could be a kernel memory leak in the NFS code, for example. If you can pin down the exact pattern, report it to Apple as a possible bug.
