I have a 2004 iBook G4 (933) with a 40 GB drive and want to see what I can upgrade to. With the exception of drive space, it works great otherewise. Do I have to replace it with the same Fujitsu 40 GB drive or can I go up to something like a Seagate 80 or 120 GB?

Yes, you can upgrade to a new drive. It will only recognize a maximum of 137GB due to lack of LBA48 support, though.

Before actually buying a new drive, I suggest you review the procedure at http://ifixit.com . It's not the easiest job... I've already sworn off ever opening up another white iBook.

just finished reading the iBook G4 hdd replacement guide.

Really makes the Macbook Pro's hdd replacement seem like child's play compared to the G4. ;)

Thanks for the input. I'm happy to know I can take it to a Mac repair shop and put in a 120GB drive.
