Seems like everything is outsourcing to India. I know it's a retail store, but in my career, a lot of companies outsource there. That's why I was saying what's next.

My point exactly. I have no issue with any other of the countries, JUST INDIA! lmao
I have been on the phone with a bunch of reps, supervisors, managers etc, BASED IN INDIA, and they are total morons.
I know a lot of intelligent indians, but hey, these call centers and outsourcing spots, a lot of them are the runt of the litter if you know what I mean! ;)

Tell me how in the world a retail store is comparable to outsurcing?
Plus outsourcing is not really a threat anymore since the dollar fell like 25% compared to rupies, as well as indians finally realized they were getting ripped off.

Actually it is pretty much an apple store, due to local regulations you have to partner with indian companies. Its the same thing in China. The inside is pretty much an apple store. Although I am not sure about the prices electronics in India are like 50% more than USA.

Mar 9, 2008, 03:42 PM
yep .. thats the sad part .. the prices are premium compared to the actual price in us.. but that said its part fault of the govt.. cause of the import taxes and stuff. the mbair costs around $2300

At the risk of sounding dumb, I would still ask- do they have a Genius bar over there? I understand that its a reseller, and not a true Apple store, so just wondering.
What would you do when you need technical support- do they provide any services?

heh heh.. the first thing i did after i walked in was to ask if they had one.. unfortunately no :( but they do have workshops as the usual stores.. for tech support they've got a service center close by .. but its been around for quite a while. ps.. they ship everything to a diff city to get it serviced.. but didnt have any issues on my mac till now!

That one great thing about Japan... they don't outsource it's customer service departments to some other country - Probably cause they can't speak Japanese?
Yeah... outsourcing does suck! Big time!
Especially when they access to your personal details like Bank account info...

i am all for Apple resellers.
No, I mean you just don't understand why he's excited, do you. The store is essentially an Apple Store. It was already mentioned that Apple must open a store in partnership with an Indian store.
Actually it is pretty much an apple store, due to local regulations you have to partner with indian companies.
Even if Apple wanted to open a store in India, this is what it'd look like.
Also, they never had an exclusive Apple seller of any sort before, and now they do, hence the excitement of the OP. It's not a big deal to you. You're absorbed in your own major "problem"*cough* of not having an official Apple Store. However, it seems like you can't be happy for someone else.
So what if Australia doesn't have a store in Australia yet. "Big deal", as you said. Of course, I'm sure you don't see yourself as someone who comes across as being rude.
It seems to be a lot of negativity going around here though I canīt see why. I think its awesome, applestore or not: they sell apple products and they are spreading the love :D Good stuff indeedey
Exactly. The people who are being negative here probably always rain on everyone's parade. Maybe their lives are that sad. Who knows.

how are the prices when compared to Apple USA?
Did the sales boys r girls have good technical knowledge about the macs ?

i dont think so people can't waste money just on design in india as Most of them are Middle class people.
they can get 2 HCL laptops for the money they are putting in for MB or MBP

so far i went to two of istore by reliance ...one at hyderabad and other in chennai. frankly hyderabad istore is better.it is more well located and has a bigger space.. though the accessories they offer are not of wide range they maintain a decent show room.. ppl working there are indeed responsive unlike chennai branch.
when it comes to chennai ....i happened to visit istore to get a snow leopard upgrade dvd along with my friend who wanted to checkout some macs and wanted to know the prices as he wanted to buy one.
on reaching the store ..( i had a very tough time locating it.. it was in a not so apt area for an istore to be expected ) i foundout that it was a massive building with reliance office and in front side ground floor there was istore .as i went in i was disappointed to see a small (10 by 15 feet) room...
they had very few macs on display.... that too all old models... an old mac pro , an old imac,a new macbook pro,old macbook, old macbook air,old macbook pro 17'.... that's it...
i asked a sales person there " is snow leopard dvd available ?" he gave me a "No" in such a way that i was asking his wife for a date.... i asked another one when it would be available ... that bastard says " I dono "
WTF
was their payday postponed or wat?
another man walked in and asked for the new imac 27' ... it was not available yet.. a sales person told him "no"
"when will it be available "
" end of November"
"take the old 21 inch .... both are same"
Really were both the same?
Reliance is creating a shame on apple:apple: brand.... it created a foul stores with name of istore ..... apple india must not allow to let such things happen ...
an online store for india will be great on apple.co.in

At-least reliance should teach some manners to its sales persons at their store........
BIG SHAME

Yikes, that sounds bad. I'll have to check out the iStore in Bombay next time I'm there.
Reliance is probably a good partner in terms of the size of the company, but I hardly see them putting any effort in selling and spreading Apple's vision. It's too bad, really.
