I purchased my first EVER MAC 2.6 MBP back in Jan 5th of this year. Within few days of getting my laptop, I noticed that my laptop wouldnt wake up from sleep state. So after visiting Apple Store twice and calling Apple Care 4 times, I spoke to Apple's Customer Relations today and they decided to replace my laptop with a new one instead of repairing it.
The rep told me that I would be getting a new laptop that's like for like with what i have now.
my question is will I be getting the new Processor model or the old SR model ?
She had also stated that my laptop will be shipped from China so it has to custom ordered.
Anyone know which model it will be ?

I'm assuming since its coming from china, you will be getting the lastest model. Since there wasn't a large difference between the Peryn and SR models, you will most likely get the 2.6 Peryn. Congrats!!

Thanks for your help guys.
I just wasnt sure which model I would be getting. Does it make a difference where its coming from ? My original order came from China but this model could either come from China or within the states.
I was just happy that they will be replacing it with a new one so I didnt even ask if it will be a new model.
So whether it comes from within the states or China, will it be the new model ?

Should be easy to tell from the trackpad. If it's a Multi-Touch, than you have the new Penryn. If not, it's the previous generation, like mine, with no Multi-Touch. You can also tell from the L2 Cache. If it's the new Penryn, it will be 6 mb vs 4 mb for the older C2D 2.6 Ghz. You can find that information under system profiler.
Good luck with the new computer.

***UPDATE***
I just received a call from Apple Care Customer Relations department and they will indeed replace it with a brand new model of MBP.
I hope the new Process Model doesnt have the sleep issue.
Thanks all for your help.

This may be silly question with all the discussion you have had with Apple Care concerning the sleep problem, but are you running iStat?
I had several sleep issues with iStat and once it was removed my sleep issues (when closing the lid to sleep) are gone.
I still have difficulty waking the computer if I click on "Sleep" in the drop down menu. I have to hold down the power button and it will wake up.

no iStat on my machine. the sleep issue was apparent even after a clean install with no additional software.

i don't want to start another thread since my case is quite the same.
Feb 26 i bought a REfurbished 2.2 Ghz MBP at apple online.
( yup! the same day the penryn was announced. i did it on purpose. it's $1449
Feb 29 got my MBP, didn't notice any defects..
Mar 04 read somewhere in the forum about the YELLOW tint on the lcd.
i checked, looked for it and it was there.
Mar 05-09 was in a denial, tried calibration, huey pro etc..
problem was addressed but not completely.
Mar 10 brought the MBP in a local apple store, since i'm still in the 14 days, i'll get a replacement.. but i have to do it online since i purchased it online.
i don't know what i'll get, but another refurb 2.2 is just fine since i like my L2 cache to be 4MB.. if ever it's a new penryn Base Model. i woudn't mind:D
i'm waiting for the FEdEX prepaid shipping labels on my email.
haaay!!

Definitely lucky. I've had a number of significant issues with my MBP, but Apple was always adamant about fixing every single time. Hope your new one has less issues!
