When it is down at night it is usually maintenance or third party products being updated. Never a new product release.

This same thing has happened before. It's just maintenance. Apple doesn't update products at night like this.

Does it always say "We're busy updating the store for you and will be back shortly" when it's just maintenance?

Yes. I saw it do the same thing about a month ago.

Open TextEdit and hit Command Shift T to convert the document from Rich Text to plain text.
Then, Copy the HTML code into the TextEdit document and then "Save As..."
leave the encoding alone and simply add the .html extension to the file name. Then when prompted about what file extension to use, hit "Use .html"
Then open the html file...should work just fine

the only thing i can see being updated at this point are new iMacs and Mac Minis for North America only, as stock might be low on this continent only, but that's a really big stretch... and i don't think apple has ever done something like that before. even though that last MacScoop rumor states they would be updated in the next 4 weeks depending on product stocks...
if it's just maintenance, well damn... are they redesigning the site? it's been over 4 hours. that's so pretty serious maintenance.

actually... i'm now willing to bet there will be new iMacs when the store comes back online...
i just checked the special deals on refurbished macs in all the apple stores. these stores don't have any more "limited special offer" current generation imacs:
Australia
Japan
Netherlands
Denmark
Hong Kong
however, it seems there are only 20" current generation "limited special offers" on iMacs in the UK store and France Store... seems the 24" are all gone there, but the Italian store still has the 24" Core 2 Extreme model in the refurbished mac's section, but no 20" iMac models...

Apple Cinema Displays need a new revision and a price adjustment. They are screamingly expensive compared to their counterparts. And heres hoping for new 23" ACD :)

Thats why I dont buy cinema displays. I dont even know what advantage they offer over third party displays (if someone knows this please post below :). Theyre just really over priced.

The LCD panels used in the Cinemas are S-IPS which display better color than any other panel type and unfortunately the side effect is that they cost a lot more.

Yes, as noted they are S-IPS monitors, and the nearest equivalent is probably the NEC 24" W-UXI which is $200 more. For the 23", actually they are just really underpriced :-)
