I got the 1.8/80. I could justify spending $300 for a little extra power but couldn't justify the $1000 for the SSD.

I choose the 1.6 because I didn't need the extra 0.2. It's not my main machine and for what I use it for I wouldn't have seen any benefit from the faster processor.

1.6. Too lazy to BTO a 1.8/80gb and kept the money saved for a new MBP next year.

After thinking about it I went with the 1.6, as I couldn't see the benefit of spending the $300 for what would be, at most, a 3% to 4% real world speed bump.

I used the $300 to buy a superdrive (very glad I did...don't need it much, but when you do, you'll be happy you have it), a copy of Fusion, and an OEM copy of XP Pro SP2c.

I've had it close to a month now and I love this laptop...to paraphrase Comic Book Guy..."BEST....LAPTOP...EVER"....

And let me say to anyone who will start in about how the MBA doesn't have this or that....I know...if I wanted Firewire, dedicated graphics, etc, etc, I would've bought a MBP...

Can you tell I'm happy with the MBA? Take it easy...

In my Traveling in May - Buy Now? (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=450925) thread, I was debating getting an MBA now or closer to when I travel this summer. Well, last night I took the plunge and picked up a 1.6/80 b/c I couldn't justify the small real-world performance bump for $300. Now, I haven't opened the box yet, but I'm planning on using that $300 to get the extended warranty... and perhaps SuperDrive.

1.8/64 all over again. It's just so speedy, and no moving parts to worry about!

i played with both side by side and couldn't justify the excess cost of the 1.8. I would do it the same if i was going to buy another one.

I chose the 1.6/80 combo. I figured that my Air is not intended to be a super powerful, does everything workhorse. An incremental speed increase wouldn't be worth the (almost) AUD2,000 premium.

I couldn't be happier with my choice. The machine is snappy for everything I throw at it, which 90% of the time is web surfing and iTunes.
