My superdrive will no longer read dvds, and it also has trouble ejecting them, I've taken it to an Apple repair man and he said it needed replacing and it would be 400$, but told me if I bought the drive online he could install it for only around 100$. So my question is, where can I buy a replacement super drive for my iMac? I think I want the same model that comes with every iMac just so there is no computability issues when I eventually wipe my iMac for resale. any help would be appreciated.

also, I wanted to know how much ram I could have? Crucial.com says 2GB Max, but the apple man said 3GB.

Understanding Intel Mac RAM - Mac Guides (http://guides.macrumors.com/Understanding_Intel_Mac_RAM)
Matched RAM on Intel Macs - Mac Guides (http://guides.macrumors.com/Matched_RAM_on_Intel_Macs)

Short answer. 3GB as either 1X2GB and 1X1GB or 2X2GB with only 3GB usable.

Here is a site for a new SuperDrive for $149.95:

I've also purchased one on eBay and payed about the same price.

I believe you can still buy superdrives (and other mac drives too) at Other World Computing:

http://www.macsales.com

They have consistently been a great source for Mac upgrades over the years, and their hard drive and RAM selection is hard to beat
