Could someone please clarify which panel type the new 24 inch Alum. iMac is using. There are 2 conflicting camps on this. Some people say it is:
a) S-PVA Samsung 8 Bit Panel

b) S-IPS LG Phillips 8 Bit Panel
Does anybody know the real truth?
Maybe the old White 24 inch was S-IPS? ....

And yet others claim it's H-IPS. I have yet to see concrete evidence as to what type of panel it is.

My 24" ALU ex-iMac had an LG.Philips LM240WU2-SLB1 (according to
the panel firmware's DDC info block, as reported by SwitchResX). I've
seen several other reports of the same panel in various Mac forums.
Also, here's a photo of the panel P/N on a 24" ALU disassembled for a
hard drive upgrade:

The white 24" reportedly (via SwitchResX) used an LM240WU2-SLA1.
It's anyone's guess what differences the SLA1 vs. SLB1 suffixes imply.
Although I've seen no documented reports of other panels in the 24"
iMacs, it's quite possible that they exist. Apple used both S-IPS and
S-PVA panels in the 20" white C2Ds, and some Dell monitors do the
same.
BTW, there's nothin' wrong with S-PVA; most Eizo monitors use them.
Neither is inherently superior; it's a matter of preference: S-IPS has
slightly better viewing angles and (some say) slightly more faithful
color rendition, while S-PVA has better black levels and contrast.
I'm not sure there's any difference between S-IPS and H-IPS (other
than marketing hype). The panel data base on tftcentral.co.uk has
conflicting classifications of the LM240WU2 -- it's listed as S-IPS in
one table, and H-IPS in another.

There's a difference between the two. H-IPS has no purple hue when viewing black background at an extreme angle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TFT_LCD
Perhaps SLB1 is H-IPS and SLA1 is S-IPS?
