Half life 2: how to switch from Directx 9 to 8.1?

If I am running HL2 in boot camp, how do I switch from directx 9 to 8.1?

in steam, right click on half life, then click properties. Click the launch options button on the dialog box that appears and type "dxlevel -81" (without quotation marks).

OK, I went into Steam and right-clicked on "hl2" and went to properties, but there was only a "Shortcut" tab which let me change the shortcut settings. HELP!

he forgot the . (period) between 8 and 1.

It's "-dxlevel 81".

If you don't play in leagues, you can go lower for more performance, as in "-dxlevel 70".
