500GB Time Capsule or Airport Extreme?

I have the older AEBS, but I recently ordered a Time Capsule. I am uncertain that it is the right direction to go since reading the various problems with them.

Do you have Leopard?
Do you need to back up your stuff?

Too early to say about TC. Stick with your AEBS and use an external for backup/TM until more is known about TC or the AEBS gets a firmware fix for TM.

Leopard, yes.

Backup, really no need, but you never know.
