The funny part about the SDK - Current apps

Which of the stock apps will survive the SDK?

I honestly cant think of any besides maybe the phone application since I doubt they will be able to modify it. I can see the calendar staying also because of how well it integrates with OSX. All of the other apps can be replaced by far better programs that will constantly be developed.

This thing will hardly be an iphone anymore!!!

As of now, on the SDK, you cannot uninstall the stock programs that are pre loaded on the phone, so unless your talking about jail breaking, they will all survive. Plus, I doubt apple will allow apps that directly compete with theirs into the store. Mail, for instance, would need a background process, which is not allowed by apple.

Really, what other apps do you forsee being replaced? If phone isn't going, and mail can't go, and ical is fine, what's left? Weather and stocks are pretty good, and if you don't like Safari then you're using the wrong phone. And would you replace the iPod functions???

I think it's more that there are other options out there for additional applications, not that the built in ones will be replaced.

Mail, Clock, Calendar (though I like this one), Camera, Photos, Stocks, Weather, Calculator, Notes, etc etc....

They can all be replaced with something FAR better. Apple hasnt developed any of these since release. All it would take is a programmer to look at each one of these apps and improve them.

Still, I do see where you're coming, and there will be apps that come out that tap into the power of the original apps (as shown in the SDK presentation).... so we'll definitely see some cool things from 3rd parties.
