Nintendo has announced that Mario Kart for Wii will ship April 27 to the U.S. Europe gets it April 11.

Anyone else super excited? Between Super Smash Bros., Endless Ocean and now Mario Kart — I'm never going to get anything done.

That's good to hear. I'm not crazy about that steering wheel though. I hope they make it compatible with the GC controller. Yea call me lazy, but that's how I like to play games.

It's total bull that Europe gets it before the US. Not fair! Though, I'll probably still be heavily engrossed in Smash....

And, yes, you will have multiple control options: 1. classic controller 2. Gamecube controller 3. Wii Remote 4. Wiii Remote + nunchuck.

I noticed this a few days ago while reading an IGN article previewing the game, I cannot wait. I reserved it at EB Games the day i picked up Smash Bros :)

From what I hear unfortunately, the traditional controller configuration is preferred over the Wii remote. I was looking forward to using the steering wheel. Oh well, still will be excellent. My only hope is that battle is much more to the tune of Mario Kart 64 than the battle version on Double Dash. In fact, just remaking the N64 version's levels with possibly new weapons and sharper graphics would just make me so happy :o

Apparently, you can use the Wii remote tilted on its side (with or without the wheel shell), the remote and nun-chuck together, a GameCube/WaveBird controller or a Wii Classic controller.

Yeah, that's what I said. 12 players, too!

hmmmmmm GTA IV a day later....plus most media says its better with a classic controller (that wiimote sure is necessary for 'next-gen'....), Nintendo's totally rocking online system and it looks about the same as Double Dash...... so I'll wait till a price drop.

Are you being a troll... ;)

I can't believe you just mentioned a game that completely focuses on individual play, as if it will have an effect on a game that's all about friends. What's with that?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this game, but only if it does for the Wii what MK DS did for the DS. I wasn't a huge fan of Double Dash either, but I certainly enjoyed the maps they ported to MK DS.

Tilting isn't the best option for racers, but thumb-sticks are one of the worst options for pointing, so at least the Wiimote has a REAL pointer and a thumb-stick option giving it the best of both worlds.

not at all, just making valid opinions :p

You mean GTA IV coming out? It's gonna effect a lot. How many rabid GTA whores are gonna spend their cash on GTA IV over Mario Kart? Kart is still gonna sell like nuts because well everyone and their dog has a Wii BUT I wonder if putting it so close to one of the biggest games of '08 is a good idea or not.

JackAxe
Mar 12, 2008, 09:21 PM
Biggest game of 08 my arse -- that's their opinion. :)

Regardless, that game has little relevance with this thread besides it being released on a similar date. Besides my friend's kids playing it, peeps my age really didn't get into it. And if GTA is such a big thing, than why didn't it do for the PSP what MK did for the DS. That's a valid point. ;)

Back it into May or June please! Nintendo needs to know how to space out their AAA games!

The irony. First peeps are commenting/complaining that there's not enough AAA games for the Wii and now too many are coming out too soon together. :D

This game is going to be superb. IGN just posted a preview/impressions with 2:30 video of battle. You will have the option to have up to 8 computer players offline (able to be sorted into teams if desired) in addition to 4 people split screen and for online play teams will also be available. There are 5 Wii-specific courses and 5 remakes INCLUDING BLOCK FORT!!!

I cannot wait.

Well it better be superb.

Other than it and super smash bros (even with its disappointing patchy online probs) and wii fit - there's barely anything of real 'note worthy' status on the horizon so far for the Wii...... which is quite dissapointing.

OKAMI!!! I haven't played this game, so I'm excited about it coming to the Wii. :)

I'm also looking forward to King Story(Project O (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTcLECzD0qQ)), We Love Golf, Tales of Symphonia, all of the WiiWare games, there's about a dozen survival-horror flash-light simulators coming out this year. Spore might even be out! Wii Music, all of the Namco arcade balancing games for Wii Sports. Even Rygar for Wii has my interest, but I really haven't liked any modern 3D interpretation of old 2D classics, so would be weary of buying it. And maybe I'm bored, but Force Unleashed.

It's kind of hard to filter out the good titles from the bulk of the shovelware the Wii is getting do to its popularity, but there could be some gems in there worth playing, especially with WiiWare. But you're probably looking for the normal-rehashed-rereleased-prequels-[oh that game again] tittles. :p

And on the topic of games for systems, the DS looks to have a slew of great games coming this year, where as last year's selection didn't appeal to me.

Also Rygar... That's just another port of a 2 year old PS2 game as well isn't it? It was a good game, but nothing special. Again though... been there done that.

Still can't get excited....

JackAxe
Mar 16, 2008, 07:18 AM
I saw Rygar and thought about the last time I played it, which was on my Atari Lynx. Shows my level of interest in it.

^ Agreed..... And were only talking a week....

We have to wait 4-6 months or in many cases a hell of a lot longer (14 months for Animal Crossing) for Europe to get the game.

JackAxe
Mar 17, 2008, 06:35 PM
But that week is an eternity for those that want it sooner. We have no patience, I'll just have to move to Europe for that week. :o

Do you think that maybe the delays are caused by just trying to get things kosher with a given region?

Very excited. I heard there's 32+ tracks in this game including "classic" loltracks.

But still that's nice to see. I hope they're remaking a few tracks from the SNES game.

Ok, someone please, please tell me I'm reading this wrong:

"But it's only possible to play in red vs. blue team games; there's no free-for-all, which to our mind runs contrary to the true spirit of Battle Mode, that of the gleefully ruthless fracas."

There's no free for all in battle mode? Are you kidding me?! That's what battle mode is! Team battle mode? Give me a break. Mario Kart Wii, what are you thinking? This needs to be an option to have, not a set way to always do it. Why kill something they know everyone loves?

Ja Di ksw
Apr 1, 2008, 12:32 AM
Sigh, that's very disappointing. I preferred the Battle Mode to the racing on all previous games. That's what my friends and I did, got together and had huge battles that lasted for hours.

Would it be possible to change this with some type of patch?

JackAxe
Apr 1, 2008, 12:33 AM
I hope not, that would be lame. I already heard that they simplified the power slide.

Here's IGN's ramble about battle mode (http://wii.ign.com/articles/859/859812p1.html?RSSwhen2008-03-14_155900&RSSid=859812).

IGN confirms it as well, they talked about how it was split into two teams, red and blue, instead of a free for all.

********** weak, Nintendo. ********** weak.

My favorite part is racing friends, but I still enjoy the free for all battle modes.

From the sound of it, they destroyed the local battle mode too :(. This is such a huge disappointment for me, I was looking forward to Mario Kart more than *any* other game on the Wii (Brawl, Zelda, etc).

As far as the Grand Prix, it sounds like you can do the tracks in multiplayer, and can go through them in order, you're just not doing it to unlock new levels or whatnot. Read the correction in the eurogamer link I posted.

TheAngusBurger
Apr 1, 2008, 07:38 AM
I think the entire success of this game rests with the online play. It'd better be a step up from the DS games, as that was just, ugh.

Oh, and you can still powerslide the "old" way, I was reading somewhere that it gives you the choice. I wonder what you'd look like snaking with the Wii Wheel...

You people and your griping about snaking. Oh no, that guy has more skill than I. He's cheating. Me me me me me me me. :p

Nothing wrong with the DS's online play. I had so much fun playing my friend and his son routinely for a few months. The only thing that was a pain about the DS and online, was getting it to see my old router. Issues I've never had with the Wii.

Watch the videos showing the Mario Kart channel. It actually looks pretty good.

I'm not moaning about snaking, how else would I thrash everyone at my school on MKDS? I was merely wondering what you'd look like snaking with the Wii Wheel, you'd be swinging your arms around like a lunatic. I suppose if they had scrapped the old powerslide system more people would use the wheel.

And yeah, the channel is looking good, hopefully it's as smooth as in Ninty's videos.

so gimped online. gimped 2 player, gimped battle mode and now gimped control scheme?

http://kotaku.com/374920/classic-gamecube-controllers-gimped-for-mario-kart

Oh my. Anyone preparing to throw the Wii Wheel out with the bathwater when their copy of Mario Kart arrives may want to know this. The latest fact sheet handed to us from Nintendo contains some notes on the game's four control schemes. Here's what it says for the Classic and GameCube controls:

• Classic Controller: Mario Kart veterans can let their thumbs do the driving with the Classic Controller. However, players cannot perform certain moves with this control scheme.

• Nintendo GameCube™ Controller: Experienced Mario Kart fans may also enjoy this familiar scheme, although some maneuvers cannot be performed.

huzzah! Sounds a lot like Shadowrun on PC vs 360 where they gimped the PC controls so the 360 players could actually compete.
