I'm selling my mac pro and 1tb is more than enough for me and wanting to know if anyone has used the 1.0TB OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro drive and how well it operates transfering using the firewire 800 port and how quiet this drive runs??

It can be found here, https://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MEAQ7H1TB32M/

I use one. The speeds are fine on FW800. The drive is a little noisier than i would like when the fan is running, but overall I'm very satisfied with the unit.

OWC makes comparatively low quality enclosures.

Try the WD Studio Edition 1TB. It has firewire 800 and e-sata (much faster)

And it appears to be cheaper... thats a win win.

Is this drive just 1-1TB drive or is it 500gb x2 raided? I just want to make sure and just want 1-1TB drive.

Why do you say its lower quality and "faster"? The OWC has FW 800 and eSata as well. I was looking in to the Western Digital first but notice it has a fairly high failure rate based on user reviews.

What hard drive brand is in the OWC, does anyone know?

That was mostly directed at the OP, as he indicated he would use it at Firewire 800 as opposed to esata. I see that they both have the option.

I just ordered the enclosure from OWC and ordered a seagate 1tb drive to install into it. :D
